Nice, man-- I really like your sketches
Thanks for stopping by my book btw :]
Pseudo-Kidney: Thanks a lot!
spaztastic: Thanks for the commentbut...what caricatures? I didn't mean for any of this stuff to be that...even though i've done some of that. Whoops...
drd: Thanks for the comment and my pleasure.
batcustard: Wow, this is exactly why i love to post on forums like this. I never get any feedback like this at school and i really appreciate it. Ever since i saw your comment i've definitely been looking out for all of the things you mentioned. You're totally right about the dislocated shoulder and the flat faces. Thank you so much dude, i really appreciate the time you spent finding those flaws.
So! Some updates!
I've been super busy with school, going to class at 8 and ending around 7 so i barely have any time for myself. Luckily i'm taking 4 studio classes so i'll be able to spend a lot of my school time working on art. Right now i'm just posting some of my life drawing from my life drawing class...go figure.
I've been trying to take an Eric Gist approach to my 5 minute warm up sketches, so i hope that comes through.
First three are 5 min warm ups, the rest are 20 minute poses.
The last is kind of a joke...i had a bad angle on the pose (baaaaalls) so i turned him into Gulliver.
As always, i'd love some crits on how to take my work further. Thanks for looking!
No body likes me
Here's a WIP for CHOW, trying to work on making my digital paintings not suck so much.
Might put a ghost in the background to make him look more like a parnormal detective rather than a regular one.
edit: did some more work on it![]()

Your sketches are looking great. I didn't mean any offense about the caricatures... I meant to say I like your characters I suck at spelling and rely heavily on spell check most of the time I pick the first correction it gives. O.o sad I know.

Those figure drawings are coming along really nice!
The sensibility in your line work is really nice. At times the proportions are off, but with time, I think that will work itself out.![]()
spaztastic: no i'm not offendedI used to do caricatures so they might have made their way into my stuff...unbeknownst
Thanks again!
JailHouseRock2: Thanks a lot! I'm working hard so it's good to hear that I'm improving.
Sub: Thanks dude, ya i think i struggle with proportions more than anything so i'll try harder.
Some sketches, nothing special cept it's all from my head:
Ah, you are getting much better too. Really liking the newer faces. The people climbing on the figure model is great too! Keep it up and we can meet on the battle field :] Also you might want to consider adding Loomis to your Bridgman Anatomy studies.
threecharles: Thanks dude
Here's some studies and sketches for a painting i'm going to be doing in oils on a 3'x4' canvas.
If anyone has crits i'd love to hear them.
Cool work, I really like the life drawings. For your imaginary stuff, it seems they're sort of lacking structure. You should look into some Bridgeman/Loomis as threecharles mentioned if you haven't already, it'll help tons. And there are some proportion issues in the figures.
For the last painting, you may want to make it more atmospheric. I get the feeling she's sittin on a little chair by her bed, with her bedside lamp lighting up the wall. I actually wouldnt've been able to tell it was supposed to be a barscene wasn't it for the thumbnails. You might want to tilt her head forward some more as well.
Good luck with it!![]()
Piemonster: Thanks for the great critiques. I'll work to bring in more atmosphere to the painting, it's hard to get good references...
And as per your suggestion i did some bridgeman studies and finished up this page of my sketchbook where i wanted to fill the page with profiles![]()
Hey Dee! Good job on keeping up the intensity! (Now I have to post, haha)
For the digi painting you started of the woman, it loks like you lost your drawing pretty quickly. Painting it all about shapes, and edge control. The drawing till look like it is supposed to when you pay attention to the edges of your shapes.
The great thing about painting, is you can work subtractively as well. So just go in there with the red, and carve out the shape of the women, just like you were making a pencil line.
Keep rocking the pencils dude!
Thanks sub! Ya that quick sketch is definitely terrible and i'm gonna try and put more depth into it.
Quick little sketch:
Nice profile sketches, try a page where every face has a different expression.
My Sketchbook is a WiP:

hemP: Thanks for stopping by dude
So, I've started a portfolio boosting project that i'm gonna use to improve my skills in the Concept Art field. I came up with a concept, with the help of 3ch, for a game ending in a climactic battle where, "a naked musketeer cuts a minotaur at the edge of a cliff." I'm going to try and go through the motions of doing the concept work from thumbnails to character designs to environments and props. Hopefully I'll finish this year
Any advice would be fantastic, i'm really interested in being a Concept Artist and i know that it's a very competitive field so any help would be so appreciated.
Here's some thumbs for the musketeer, i'll do more later but i wanted to get some out here on my sketchbook for input or general direction.
Thank you so much!
Cool idea to expand a 3ch and do concept art from the ground up for each element.
Should be quite a learning experience!
The thumbs are looking good. So no real crit on those.
But in general, make sure you are at least looking at a ton of reference, or ideally doing studies of your source material. It will help you internalize the information so that you can call on it later!
Where's the beef? I need some updates, bro!
Sub: Been really busy with work and school...I'm transferring to Academy of Art University in San Francisco which is gonna be awesome and will hopefully give me a bunch of stuff to post.
As for right now...don't even know if this constitutes as an update but i think it shows what kind of things I've been trying to work on in my digital paintings. I've got other projects that i'm working on and will hopefully post soon.
About 1 hour, Photoshop:

Sweet sweet sketches, your lines are clean and you have an awesome style.
Your really going about this in all the right ways, you're gonne get great and improve tons. Your going on good there a nice balance of studies and drawing from mind, never stop that study then apply everything in sketches and have fun!
Sweet ass concepts btw!
Keep at it
PieMonster: Will do man, I've definitely been keeping busy
Toffeeliz: Haha, thanks a lot. I'm definitely not good with a brushbut i might whip out the inks eventually.
Hammed Al-Tamimi: Thanks! Glad to hear the Bridgeman and Loomis are helping you out, i know they helped me.
lilnebo: I'm gonna just copy and paste your comment the next time i'm in your sketchbook, thank you so much for the input!
