Dam, that project looked awsome, so much scope and so much feedback, It seemed to be steaming along, STEAMING!!
On another note, nice linework man, did you use ref for your poses or is all from memory
Cheers

Rollingman - They are mainly from memory, it was taking too long to find the right ref.
Life drawing update, plus a page I did this evenin'.
First couple are just from an exercise we were told to do where the model continually moved and we just drew her gestures.
Below we had to look at a pose for 1 minute, and then draw for a minute or 2 from memory. Also, we were asked to draw a dragon. Broke the mood up nicely that.
Chow fo now.
Just a page of sketches from earlier this afternoon.
Enjoy the weekend guys.
Right, lets do this.
I'm going to try and do a speed painting each working day (5 a week) from reference, before I go to work. I was supposed to start yesterday, but didn't get out of bed, so I'm a day behind already. Expect 2 in one day later this week.
Today's 'speed' painting. I say speed, it took me like a f*cking hour.
Thanks to Rollingman for encouraging me to start doing these.
Today's 1hr speed ref was a bit shite.
I wonder if doing a load of short quick ones would be better practice? Thoughts and suggestions always welcome / encouraged.
Hey Royzy, liking your work, especially your speed paintings! And yep, one hours is quick, don't bring yourself down
You have great gesture and observation skills. Painting studies certainly look like they'd be the most useful to you right now, so don't give up on them!
more roy, MORE!!! liking the speedies, MORE!!
Just thought I'd point out, I have never actually forgotten about this place. Even if I don't post for months. In fact I love CA to bits. I will also cut a long story short and basically blame the CA Attachment Uploader for just being generally annoying and not making me feel excited for uploading.
Ariel and Rollingman! - Thank you veray much for the comments. I will do more speedies.
After a dreadful two terms at uni (my work, not the course), I have decided to drop the idea of doing pre-production for my final major project. Basically because my final bits of artwork for these last two terms just looked awful. And somehow my animation grades tend to be highest, so I will be concentrating on the animation instead. Rollingman will know all about this, since I will be working with him! Really looking forward to it.
As for pre-production stuff, I'm just going to do lots of drawing and practicing in my spare time. I'm not at a standard where I feel happy or comfortable to be graded on it.
Well, here is a big sketch dump I've been holding onto!
Firstly lets post the really shit bits, to get them out the way..
I wasn't going to upload these colour ones below, because, haha yeah.... designing characters in an evening before hand-in is bad news / bad results.
Environments to go with the 'meh' above. Was supposed to do 3, did barely 1 and a half. Learnt a lot though.
Life drawing bits...
Aaaand some speed studies from last term.
Aaaaaaaaaaand some sketches from just recently.

I think your last four pages of sketches are well done, but that final ink drawing has ESPECIALLY caught my eye. I think you should do pages and pages of just ink work -- I'd be interested to see what you come up with!
HondaFoo - Cheers man! I do want to do more in pen, particularly detailed bits. Pretty much all my life drawing I do in pen at the minute. Usually ends up just being line work though, because our poses tend to be very short.
Will definitely try out some more detailed stuff though
Dr. Sketchy's - in Falmouth!
Well guess what, we have a Dr. Sketchy's in our town now! So over the last 5 months, I have had the joys of burlesque life drawing to attend. I was asked to be the official blogger, so if you want to read the ramblings of someone who obviously didn't take a writing course, check out the Dr. Sketchy's Falmouth website.
Sketches from the sessions up until now, below.
June and July
August
September
October
Halloween
And ahem.... hold on.... there is more... Attachment Manager not letting me upload...
...and the rest of that bunch.
I won a copy of Bizarre magazine at the last event, for the octopus I put in. Woop woop.
So that was my Dr. Sketchy's life drawing from June, up until Halloween.
-----------------------------
I do have more to upload (of other stuff), but the Attachment Manager was getting a bit funky, so I'll update the rest as separate post/s.
Chow!
looking pretty good! there are some sketches where you really put more effort into polishing it and it really shows. i get the impression if you focus more time doing those, you might improve morekeep it up
Aks9 Thanks man. Yeah, the more polished ones are usually where I have had a chance to sit down in my free time.
The rest are mostly erratic speed sketches from these life drawing sessions, which are all I seem to get time for at the minute!
I definitely want to spend more time relaxing and drawing away from life again.
Here are some more bits since my last visit.
Some compulsory posemaniacs...
And a bit more life drawing... our poses usually tend to be warm up / 30 second poses, then mostly around 3 minutes, with some longer ones thrown in.
We also had a session where the model didn't turn up...
Will update again over the weekend hopefully. And visit everyone's sketchbooks again! Finally.
Watch your proportions with a few of those character chart turn arounds. Your concepts are good but you seem to draw characters slightly slanted to the left with loong arms.
Just keep up those figure studies and you'll be great. Keep posting more please~
Very long time since I've been on here, and I plan to stay, again. Don't I always say that?
Anyway, to celebrate, here is some drawings from 6 months ago! Yey!
I'm still scanning the newer stuff... which seems to take hours.
Edit - Cheers Dana! Yeah the proportions are atrocious. I was in two minds as to put that stuff on here. I'll definitely keep up the figure studies. I need to get back into the habit again.
Dr. Sketchy's pages from the last load of sessions.

Currently pretty much all my time is spent watching 3D tutorials (around my 9 to 5 job). Now that I've finished university, I can find some time to learn how to do the things I actually want to put into my portfolio. So modeling for games, rigging, etc + animation (animation I'm pretty comfortable with). Modeling is what I am spending a lot of time learning at the minute. I also need to finish a nice portion of animation for my reel - which I got distracted from. I was doing a few shots with some TF2 characters, but I'll worry about that later.
So, my portfolio is pretty much just sketches at the minute. Feels kinda tragic. The animated bits I've done won't be uploaded until I've got enough to make a decent showreel out of.
Anyway, I rebuilt my site, in preparation of all the amazing things I'll inevitably make. Woop woop.

Some of my early sketches / concepts for things in our final major project.
I was quite fond of the rocket. I wouldn't mind perhaps messing around with that character again at some point.
NOTE: Those particular 3D models in this post were not created by me, they are just to show how my sketches were used. Models were created by Matt Luxton and Matt Butler.
The film never got entirely finished, which was a shame. I'll upload some of the rendered and animated shots at some point, but not right now.

Thought I'd start doing some more digital stuff, since it is predominantly pencil sketching in here.
Did these a few days ago, they are chronological. Started off veeerrrrry rusty.
About to upload this evenings sketch, so hopefully there will be a bit of progression again. Feeling more comfortable as I do more.
All reffed.

This evening's sketches / sketch in progress. reffed.

Finished off the other sketch this eve. Had to wind the chap's neck in. Lol still a bit long, even looking at it now.
I felt a bit lazy by the end, but hey. It's ok.
Reffed.

Reffed sketch for the evenin'. It's the first one I've had a chance to do since moving house.
Anyway, laterrrrssssss.

Thought I'd upload some bits.
Some random stuff I don't even :-
More importantly below is what I've been occupying myself with.
=================================================
My Polycount Sketchbook
=================================================
I've started a sketchbook thread over on Polycount. If any of you have threads there, let me know! I'll swing by.
Anyway - 3D things!
I'm making a hat for Team Fortress 2. I'll probably turn this into a pack like thing now, so I have more chance to practice.
This is my first time sculpting / modeling / texturing / UVs / game engine / etc,
so let me know what you think!
Currently WIP.
Eye or no eye? I didn't really want to add one, but everyone asks about it. So maybe I should.
Also I have since added the vents / gills on the black triangle, to the texture. I'll upload another version soon.
I need to add some kind of subtle skin / water texture to the blue part on top. Or at least something or visual interest I think, but keeping the art style of the game.
I haven't really added a particular shader yet, I'll do that later.
Did a reference study. Probably spent longer on it than I should have, certainly wasn't speedy anyway. Mainly because it has been a looooooong time since I painted with colour.

Great life drawings and 3d work brotha!
Thanks tronrobotAppreciate it.
Started doing another reference study this evening, mainly for practicing colour and rendering (plus it is pretty therapeutic).
So yeah, started that. Eyes are a bit funked up, but I'll fix that.
Anyways, chowwwww.

Just a quick post to say I've submitted the headgear to the Steam Workshop.
If you like it, Vote it up.
\\\.... Steam Workshop :: Sharkhelm ....///
Also, started modeling the melee weapon to go the aqua pack.
Any thoughts appreciated. Haven't decided on colours yet, this is just a block out.

Back again. Not much 3D going on atm, so here are some old-ish unposted digital sketches.
Aaaaaaaaaand 30 second poses. Trying to get back into those again. Doing them in photoshop now though, I got fed up with scanning them all, which was partly why I stopped doing them.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFCKINGAAAAAANDDD I found my physical sketchbook. So yeah, that'll be a thing again I imagine. Did one ref sketch last night, to get the feel of the ol' paper again.
