Wow, I usually don't have much time to go through a lot of sketchbooks, but you Adama portriat caught my eye. The likeness is spot on. Your tradidtional work on the other hand needs more attention. Take a little more time to get those likenesses down. Please do another portrait of Hugh Laurie (House)! Also really like the Hide one, nice to know there are other X-Japan fans out there (too bad about Hide though). Your watercolours have improved drastically. Try losing some of your edges. Glad I stumbled upon this sketchbook, keep up the good work.

    Glad to hear that

I might make another Laurie portrait, this time I think I'll draw him from Blackadder though

This one is from Chester Ocampos tutorial in the latest ImagineFX

Turned out all right I suppose... At least I learned a few tricks (She's obviously using the "Card Rain" spell)

like the aquarel look into getting a finer brush to add detail/ make some sharp corners and stuff. this one feels a little bigger then last. but I think you can still use more space
about the lady in digital. it feels like you did an outline sketch and then just started coloring in. dont do that. color and light isnt about coloring in, but about sculpting masses. use the colors like clay.

Actually it was done by 1. making lineart 2. color in flat colors 3. duplicating the layer 3 times, locking transp. pixels, make them black, change mode to linear dodge 4. add different light sources at the different layers 5. merging it all together and keep rendering

It's a bit difficult getting it right when working like that, but I think I see what you mean

Haven't had the time to get larger papers so this is still A4. I'll look into that though

hey tobbA! you're putting in a lot of work I see; and very diverse. that's a good thing, but I'm having a bit of trouble giving you usefull critique because of that. maybe you should pick one technique/style you want to improve and put in work towards that for a while? one thing I did pick out; if you look at you digital drawing of the duck and compare it to the studies you'll notice the ducks in the studies have a neck attaching to a long 'breast' that protrudes far and long from the body. you digital drawing does not have a 'breast'.
those actor drawing look real good btw. they look alike well, and I really like the shading technique.

Hey tobbA, nice stuff. Those drawings of the star wars characters look really nice, they capture their likenesses very well.
Watercolor looks nice, but it could use a bit more detail maybe... up to you really, that's just a design decision.

I'd agree with ashess, a focus would make things easier to critique. Keep it up man.

tobbA; I have the same problem. but maybe just pick out 1 subject and stick with it for a few weeks; then you can skip to something else again? ^^
you can just name it in the tread too to help; like, 'I'm gonna focus on human anathomy now', or 'I'm studying colors with this'.

tobbA, that shoe is great; love the way suggest detail, without getting lost in it. the cup.. dimensions feel a bit weird. also, is it really that thin?
about the Chow: do you use pressure sensitive size? it's like you were stuck with a big paintroller for some of the details you wanted to add.

the watercolours are really coming on but I especially like your pencils they are rendered really well without any rigidity. The girl standing next to the tree looks a bit out of proportion which is strange cus the rest of your figures look dead right I think

Ashess, thanks! Yes, I can see that it's skewed too...I dunno. I think it's harder to get good proportions with less detailed things than things with more detail.

And um, yeah. Thanks for pointing that out... I get really annoyed with my digital drawing technique because all my picture comes out looking the same... :/ But I can't really figure out a better way to do it. Also I try to paint big at first and go into details later.

hedwordup, Thanks. I guess it looks that way because I didn't use any reference... I tried to fix the proportions in a later version but I still got crits on the entire anatomy and dress so I kinda ditched the whole pic ^^'

    Hey!

    Hey tobbA!
I see some pretty good studies in here and the will to always get better. That is great. But I think your stuff from imagination would benefit of some more accurate sketching, before the blocks of color. Keep it up!
