alas an update after sludging around with my emotions and busy schoolwork and work in general.

The updates go from newest to oldest I think, depending how i scanned them in, haha. The last one is really old, hence why the legs suck and everything about it! But it's from imagination..a character based off of the name of one of my piano students, "maya blood"...it was a cool name and this character popped into my head from it. I don't know why haha.

    Loots of leg practice.
i'll post some head practice tomorrow, trying to nail those proportions.

smarty > Yes, I agree..bigger brush strokes. I need to practice blocking in things instead of detailing detailing.

    My57 > thank you!

walnut > Thanks! Yeah, facial proportions kill me. I have a lot of practicing to do.

your welcome and don't worry. When I started my sketchbook I tried to find 5-6 other sketchbooks that showed some initiative and were aproximately my skill level or a tad better and ran with it.

The legs stuff is solid, I also really like the eye structure scribbles last too. If your doing eyes from imagination like the red girl (which is lot better btw) try for now drawing in a socket and ball, it makes placing the curve of the eyeball alot easier. The placement is very good, the eyes just look a little flat where they are.

The fugure from behind is lovely, nailed the expression after abit of fixing. The figure to the right isnt weighted properly though, something about the hips and chest alingment that carry dow into the leg being too far over to the right. Try drwing some figures from the legs up, I've been doing that recently and it feels right to do them after aload of leg studies. It helps nail a sense of weight.

nice improvement so far, these studies looks like you know what you are doing and like you understand the form of the leg, but on this female warrior looks like you didn't, focus more on the anatomy, make more studies and then try to make another character from imagination, you'll look how far you will go for example you can draw 50 legs from refs and then close your eyes, imagine these legs and try to draw one-two from imagination, you have big potential so practice hard to get fast developing.
    best regards
*if you draw your bf, or some from the real life will help you with tons (have to do that myself)

There's some nice stuff here. You're heading in the right direction. Don't give up on it. Just practice as much as you can. And you don't always have to do the bland anatomical studies, you can enjoy what you draw.

these are great! My only criticism is when you do anatomy studies...even though you are trying to just get the basic outline, try to make the skin look natural. some of your shading is a tad bit harsh. Other than that you are doing great!

lst painting shows some solid improvement. Great handling of form. Try not to uniformly use your darkest tone though. Save it for very specific points. The point of view here could also use a little play on edges. Have you tried softening the outside of the arms.

Anatomy studeis are the way to go. They look ok, but don't lunch out the head, cos when you do draw them their generally abit bit small and disconnected.

    update

Bigtayter (love your name) - thank you!! I agree...my shading is very harsh, haha. I shall work on it once this anatomy is under more control ty!

Smarty - thanks! yes, I need to do some b&w studies to help my tonal shading. i abuse the edges and shadows, it's bad..thanks for pointing it out! AHH! and you're soo right...this is the critique I really tried to improve this week: not skipping out on the head. I didn't go all out, but I definitely tried to connect them more to the body proportionately. goddamn I always draw my heads small!

    Thanks again!
here's some update...not much, just oc sessions with fred.
god i'm so busy! how do you guys find time to draw for long periods every day? the most i can get in is an hour or two during the week days, it pisses me off!
i feel like quitting my jobs and school and just drawing...too bad my parents are a pressure

    finally

OmertA - thank you!!! i have such a long way to go, I wish i was more intensively studying!!
RETEP - Thanks! my friend is really helping me to push my linework...I'm still trying...
wi2rd - Thank you! I will keep improving..I have to, or else I'll be so sad...

FINALLY woke up super early this morning and studied anatomy. I've had to do so much website programming crap the past two weeks! Trying to get these two freelance websites OUT OF THE WAY so i can draw over the summer.

Ugh but my day got so fucked up when a girl came over, I had to baby sit her...no choice, it was to help her mom *long story*...oh well no big, i was just irritated to get interrupted without warning. Then I had to go to work. And I have huge essay shit due on friday for a class that i'm totally slacking in. :|

lesson: don't take summer courses! bah.

    lesson 2: draw more

    lesson 3: improve more

You should blow off school and work, go down to Granville and pick up an ounce.

    Then draw.

Beautiful stuff here, your Hogarth studies are great. Try drawing them in some different orientations than just the ones he shows, constructing the limbs and joints and flesh and shadows yourself.

Wish i could draw half as well as you at eighteen, it really is all about milage and that takes time. You have some wonderful sketches and it will be a pleasure to watch you grow as an artist.

    oioi!!!

ekler - shaank youu...must improve my linework more though!!!! 8|

Strela - Hah, best advice ever. i totally would if i could, but I hold myself to responsibilities that I wish didn't exist. Will definitely try the Hogarth stuff...I need to work from my brain more now rather than reference.

jeremyg0rd0n - Thanks! Duno if the track is right or wrong...but at least i'm on a track

Sublimus - Porn? Me? What? Never. Just some kind girls. Thanks.

mike butkus - Thank you so much! Age doesn't matter a fig in art though. Actually, age in general doesn't matter a fig. in my opinion.

Grandmassa Mr. Spect - You totally make my day...I can't help but grin reading your posts. THANK YOUUU GRANDMASSA...you're the bombbb, and i love your art, and i looove that portrait. thanks for stopping by!! I totally agree, I love the relationship poses. they convey stuff. Shall do more. (i think there's a bunch of lesbo ones up there, haha)

ho hum! i was busy today with teaching and dance recital-ing, but now it's all over. performing on stage is fun...but drawing naked men is more fun.

trying to quicken up my pace, but sometimes my line work freezes up. bah.
Something tells me I need to be doing other things too. Like still life and whatnot.
the good news is...my design class' next project is to draw a comic. wheeooowhhh. so i'll take an knack at that one...which will probably produce epic failure

Awesome figure studies though I noticed you almost always draw the same angular facial structure. Perhaps try to get more variation in that aspect. Possibly draw some people of different ethnicities? Black people, indian people, mexican, puerto rican, etc. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work!!

I respect your perseverance and extremly positive attitude about life and your current skillz. You have a chance to be something great, you clearly have enough confidence to go the distance. Now lets see some OC's (Original characters) and see just how far you have come, be inventive and original in your design, not as easy as it sounds but drawing this way can make you pound out the kinks in your work, including drapery, light and shadow and other shiet.

Pick a few artist you admire, draw from them but don't just copy what you see, as mentioned be inventive and learn in an inventive way! Look forward to seeing much much more! *Hugz n kisses* haha =-]
