Portfolio help please..

I'm going to submit a portfolio hopefully before school was out, and I was wondering if there was anyone here who could give me some advice with a portfolio? I would like to know what art colleges (or institutes) are looking for in a GOOD portfolio. Maybe based on some prior experience, someone could help. My major would be illustration. Thanks for your time.

usually art schools have at least a paragraph describing what they are looking for, the number of pieces and the formats they accept. i suggest looking at the websites or calling the schools you are interested in and getting a catalog. also take a look at the student work from the schools u are intereseted in to gauge your portfolio.
