    The Beauty and The Beast

Soleil Productions, my french publisher asked me to draw an illustration for an art book. The subject was : angels and demons.
I do not like the usual images of angels with wings on their backs. I think this is very common and cliché (that is my opinion of course).
I prefer to play with my favourite subject: the ambiguity.
Who is the angel where the devil in this picture? I ask the spectator, while leaving the choice ...

Oh one last thing: Do not ask me what are the red lines from the body of the beast, I do not know myself ! ^0^

Not a fan of this coloring style, but I'm digging the drawing.

    DEKAL :
    Thanks ^^

    TAKMASK :
Usually, I use color more gentle. For this design, I wanted a very strong red for blood contrasted with the blafard face of the child.

I think this is a very cool, slick bit of work.

Personally, I might have tried to be even more subtle with the girl and maybe got rid of the skulls on her clothes, maybe also the head she is holding (but that helps the composition nicely), so then you aren't sure whether she was just an angelic girl who happened to be sitting there.

But as I say that's just personally and I think it's a stellar bit of work anyway.

If I put some skulls on her clothes, it's for the ambiguity. She's cute... deadly maybe ?
    That's the question.
Maybe I could make her more angelic, why not, but her white face is more blafard than angelic too.

Wow! Really makes you wonder what happened a moment before that "shot". The broken wood based thingies on the floor are what intruiged me the most. Vraiment super

Nice! The ascending red strips(whatever they are!) act as strong depth cues giving the whole thing a nice sense of space.

    Great color too.

Love the drawing, the girl and the color but i don't like the way the blood seems to "cut" the floor

    Spherco:
actually, I drew these lines to balance my composition and give some "force" in the diagonal.

    spookybabydoll :
Please, can you develop about "cut the floor" ?

I have the feeling that the blood runs below the wooden floor(parquet?)
In french, le parquet s'arrêter net, car le sang suit les planches et fait des angles presque droits. La plus grande latte en haut a gauche fait une ombre sur le sang.

Oh my, it's my mistake !

In fact, the wooden floor is actually above the blood. The wooden boards are above the puddle of blood and not blood which is on the floor.
Indeed, it is not clear in my drawing! This is the first time that someone show me this error.
    thank you again ^ ^

Hi Mommy! Oh Grammy and Pooch? We were just having fun in the basement of HELL!!!
For all that I am, And for all that I have done.
To hold on tight, Is all that I've known.
To let it go, Is to tear it from my flesh.
But to hold on, May mean my death.
So I look to the stars, And All that I could be.
And I will fly away, Bloody, Torn, And Free.

Thanks to all of you ^^

About the girl, I didn't draw the pupils. It's an old trick to give "doll's look" to my characters.
