snow mountain matte painting + several environment concepts

Here are couple of environment concepts I did over the last few weeks and one matte painting.
I did some concepts inspired by a photo of Mount McKinley (link) and decided to take one of these speedies and develop it into a finished matte painting. The foreground could use some work, though, but I just had to leave it be. You can find the initial speedpainting below and two other conceptual paintings I did on the same theme.
Finally, I put 4 environmental concepts I did simultaneously as practice for controlling light and atmosphere in rocky environments.
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy.

Wow, you are a master of environments! I love the attention you've paid to all the little details, like the rocky parts. The matte is wonderful and convincing, but I actually prefer the speedpaints. They have such nice colours and expressive strokes. Brilliant!

Inspiring stuff. Just examining each of these is helping me become a better artist, but I gotta ask, is there anything specific you discovered while doing these "practices" that you wouldn't mind sharing? It sure seems like you've nailed down the look of controlling light and atmosphere in rocky environments (understatement). I can't decide on a favorite because they all have different aspects that I really like and they're each great.

Great environments! Always happy to see new scenic stuff from your good self. I think No. 4's my favourite although I do like the evil green river

Those are some great environments and environment concepts. I'm a little curious, like REKlas above, if you have any insights to share.

    cool

wow...some really inspirational stuff there......the only small crit i have is the fourth one.....the building on the cliff top could possibly do with having the horizontal lines warped to give a curvature so it feels slightly above the viewers eye line, if that makes sense.......but who am i to be picky really.....there all pretty damn nice :-)
    Cheers!!!!!

When looking at your work I sometimes wonder why anyone else even tries. No one could possibly hope to do environments as good as yours. In the back of my mind, though, I know there are several other artists of similar quality. I just forget about them for the moment and let my attention be absorbed into the scenes you've created.

you have some incredibly powerful pieces in here. You really know what your doing. Each piece has something good about it, but I find that the ocean one and the first one are my favorites. Excellent job.

These are all inspiring artworks. My favorite is definatly the 6th one down because the clouds are very well painted and the transition from the dark ocean at the bottom to a light sky looks really good.
