Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
Oh Wow! your Stuff is turning out pretty amazing!
I like the portraits as well as your cloud studies.![]()
BTW, Iain Banks is TOTALLY worth the read. I sometimes have mad envy that I wasn't born in the Culture.![]()
JohanneLight: Thank you!
PixelFish: Thanks! There is definitely a long list of things that I need to get around to reading, but I'll take your recommendation as a sign to bump Mr. Banks a bit higher up on that list.
I've got a lot more time for art now and I'm getting more serious about my studies. Here's 10.5 hours worth of 30 second gesture drawings from Posemaniacs. That's 30 minutes a night, 21 consecutive nights, for a total of 1260 figures. I wouldn't say I'm great at it yet, but there is some pretty noticeable improvement between the first and last pages (not that you can make out anything in the earliest pages in this picture).
Cool SB man really interesting things)
Thanks Artezianin!
Here's my entry for COW #273 - FAIRY HUNTER. I finished it weeks ago but I have no idea when voting is going to start on this one.
The second image is an abstract piece that I mashed together and rendered out of several of my older pictures a couple of weeks ago. I find making abstracts like this to be great for clearing my art block, and it gives me some good textures that I could recycle in future digital works. I usually don't post them because I don't usually render them this fully.
I've also been working on a few little programming projects over the past two weeks. A couple of days ago I started working on a simple program to extrude an image in 3D, either based off of its own properties or by using another image as a displacement map. It's a work-in-progress, but I think it might have a few good practical applications in my digital work process, especially with a bit more polish.

Hours of rendering on a creature that I doodled up in literally less than minute. Probably still a work-in-progress, since I like how it's turning out.

Submission for COW #274.

holy shit keep practicing man your stuff its already at an amazing lvl but if you put THAT much effort in improving youll see results in a heartbeat and those recent creatures are really clicking with me sooooo awesome!
id love to see some closer snapshot of that humongous 30 sec gesture pile yknow your favorite ones of the bunch. cant wait for more man keep this up!
cheers
my sketchbook! Drawing like a maniac!!
My Blog
Destroy your weaknesses! theres nothing more to it! stop bitching grab that pencil and sketch Away!
Thanks man! It would be a lot work to go through all of those gestures and pick my favourites, but I'll try to get a good scan of the last page in my next update.

As promised, here's a clear picture of the last page of gesture studies. Significantly better than many of the earlier pages, but still nothing special. Figure drawing and drawing with speed are still two of my greatest weaknesses, artistically speaking.
And here's my contribution to this year's International Self-Portrait Day:

Some more polish on that last picture and a study of a couple of clementines.

Augh your shading. Can I just like... steal your brain for like... a week. Promise I'll give it back in good condition. Just gotta figure out how you do that.
Thanks a lot Vylla!
I've really been letting this sketchbook slip again. Here are a few little things. More stuff to come soon.

Studies of faces from music videos. One serious video and two extremely goofy ones:
Pendulum - 'Watercolour'
Hot Chip - 'I Feel Better'
Anamanaguchi - 'Meow'

wow your work is fantastic, and it's really inspiring to look through this thread and see your improvement over time. iespecially your self portraits.
Thanks mundanity! I decided a while back to try and keep one self-portrait on every page of my sketchbook. It seemed like a pretty good way of benchmarking my progress.
Here's a follow-up to post #378:
DSG 1663: Creature • THE ENGINEERED WEIRDNESS THAT IS THE SYNTH WORM
EDIT: I made a few very small touch-ups to this one. I got rid of that ridge on its side, gave some depth to its little identification mark, and changed the colours slightly.

Small pencil drawings of fruit on cheap tractor feed paper.

Great sketchbook, I love your dedication. I really like your Synth worm. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Starr!
I made a program a while back for use primarily as a sort of very minimalistic music visualizer, loosely inspired by wipe transitions and the sort of high-energy, colourful stage lighting used at raves. I've been fiddling around with it some more over the last couple of days and found when scaling it down that I can make some pretty neat animated gifs with it too.

More polish on that last monster.
EDIT: the final version

Participating in my first 'Character of the Week' contest. The topic is "The Starbound Outlaw". I'm going to give him lots more sci-fi bells and whistles in the next 48 hours.

Finished!

A perspective exercise and another creature I'm working on.
