Spent an hour or so searching the forums for a way to get rid of the damn thumbnails but the only thing I found was a mention of it existing and that it will hopefully be fixed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I haven’t actually done any self-portraits the last 3-4 years so I thought that it's about time I make myself a new one. It's probably the first one that actually resembles me

I'm having some surgery done tomorrow (due to sleeping apnoea) They're going to do allot of shit with my throat/mouth so I won't exactly be in heaven the following weeks and I don't know how long I'll be doing painkillers and be to drugged up to do much of anything but I'll try to get back to sketching asap. Whish me luck!

@rorke: Thanks man, I’ll update it as often as I can

@Kian: Hey bro! I’ve been through some pretty freaky stuff (check my thread in the lounge) But I’m going strong, you got me into this whole custom brush thing and the ones I got from you are only a fifth of the ones I got now I’m still mainly using the standard ones though, but as soon as I need a custom brush I make one. I hear you on the subtlety, it was mainly a test to see if I could create a simple mood in under 20 minutes and I think I went to crazy on the contrasts overall. I’ll keep it in mind.

I’m still too drugged up to do much of anything but at least here’s a little something I made a couple of weeks ago:

Red face Hi

Hi. JOVE.
I like the #6 .Something like hope.
When the small boat look like lonely, the sun is rising.
It's dark around the sea.But we see the sun light .
It's beauty.
And other drawing is dark, not only the color but also the feeling.

@Kenzo: I'm glad you like it. Yeah, I wouldn't say that one with the penguins have a dark feel to it though ;]

Sorry on neglecting my sketchbook but I have a couple of very time demanding contracts on my hand right now, not to mention I'm participating both in the male calendar and the UK vs Scandinavia thunderdome

Anyhow, managed to fit in a quick 20 min doodle today: (I think I saw something similar a couple of weeks ago, not sure who made it though)

You seem to have a good sense of value and lighting, maybe drop me some hints in the future once I post some work.

I would like to see more of your "mindless sketching", its very creative. So do a 5 minute piece as soon as you read this and up it, if you can. Other wise do it anyway and up it later.

May our SSG prosper.

just had to add, love the sewer sniper - can see a single frame comic series of it already, brilliant!

Really like the self portrait and the boat. I'd also like to see me loose quick sketches. They help us not to worry about the detail ya know. Keep em coming and let me know about the SSG Thing.

wait a minute..I HAVE seen your stuff before. Was it on IGDA.org? I remember the boat scene! You were advertising yourself as a concept artist for the indie gamers werent you? It was your boat scene that made me realize how much information an artist can get across in a short time span.

you have a real talent for environmental concept art. I think you should continue what you are doing, especially studying real archictecture, real people, and real settings. looking foward to seeing more!

im liking your boat scenes, self portrait, and the penguins the best. i especially like the brushstrokes you used for the penguin painting. the semi transparent strokes i think help with the icy feel of the painting.
also, i think you did a really ncie job on your environment02 painting, but if i could be nitpicky about one thing, it would be the smoke coming from the flames. it looks a little too black in some areas. maybe vary the values a bit more?

@Adam: Thanks, will do. Today I got a WIP painting for you all but the next time I'll do a couple of quick sketches.

@MUNIZ: Thanks, I'm getting loser and loser in my artwork through the whole process which is great since I'm not afraid of doing large changes anymore, I'll do some quickies next time.

@wakazou: Finish the Hulk sketch? Maybe I'll try that, didn't even consider it. I'm not a metal head I listen to all kinds of music besides metal.

@smellykitty: Haha, yeah I got my portfolio up on a couple of indie-developer pages, I make my living in that part of the gaming industry. I'll take you up on that suggestion, I really need to expand my visual library, especially with real environments.

@suhsealyuh: I agree, the whole thing is rather unbalanced when it comes to values, It was more or less my first attempt at a "real environment" I'm still getting used to working with colors and learn new things every day. Expect to see more stuff in the future.

So, here we have todays entry into my SB, it's just something I'm doing for a project that I and a friend are working on in our spare time. No ref used obviously and it's just a WIP, any corrections or suggestions can still be worked into it so crit away.

Jove is this for an academic projest or theme. The whole outfit has a cool chiseled look to it. I reminds me of some of the rocky hillsideds back home. Looking forward to the fully developed piece!

That WIP is by far your best design ive seen so far, and its a wip? Thats sweet, I got a feeling its going to be good. Just love the proportions. Also how did you pick your colors? Did you restrict your levels of saturation because its a WIP?

@MUNIZ: I don't really understand the question, could you elaborate? I'm glad you like it though. When I do my stuff nowadays I just use one simple brush with pressure sensitivity set to opacity, scale the brush by hand and work in just one or two layers which I guess gives a certain look, It's a very comfortable way of working though.

@Flaskpost: Tackar, kul att du gillar dom. Frågar aldrig jänkarna vad ditt namn betyder?

@smellykitty: I'm not really sure, it was just supposed to be a character concept to nail the design of the outfit but maybe I'll add something simple, it would be nice to have a secondary colored light source somewhere.

@Adam.Katsaros: Thanks man, yeah I haven't added any strong highlights yet, it helps me focusing on the shape and design, I used to work way to high on the light scale so nowadays I usually start rather low and work my way up instead. I just picked the colors out of my head and I restricted the saturation because of the character design, he is supposed to be working for death as a sort of office worker and needs to have a special atmosphere about him.

I didn't do much on the WIP today, mainly did some cleaning and detailing, this is how it looks anyhow:

The reason I neglected the WIP today was because I had an real itch too an environment, it was supposed to be a real quick sketch but turned into a two and a half hour speed painting or whatever your supposed to call it, I used a photo ref for the landscape (and if anyone wonders, when I say ref I mean that I have a photo to look at for inspiration on my second monitor, I don't use the color picker or even the same dimensions as the original, I pick the colors and size myself, work in just one layer and generally work just as I would have done with an oil-painting):

wow...awesome paintings! Is that girl in the field from reference?

Also like that last character your working on, he's got tension and weight in his step...really coming to life.
The light coming down on him thats casting that dark shadow I think can use some brighter effects along the upper surfaces of the character...right now the shadow looks too dark for the amount of light he is recieving.

Wow, how'd you get the same color background as the board's in the sketches you posted on October 30th, 2006? I won't steal it, just curious.

@TomCardin: Thanks, I just made the girl up, I guess it shows :/ For the landscape I used a a photo as a ref, I realized I forgot to mention it just as I posted my edit with an answer to Adam, but as I clicked "Edit" again the damn power went and It didn't come back until just a couple of minutes ago. The wind was blowing yesterday like the world was about to end, real spooky atmosphere out here on the Swedish countryside.

Yeah he's a bit dark now but as I mentioned to Adam, I'm working low on the scale and as soon as the design and shape is finalized I'll go in and add the final highlights, also he is supposed to have a stronger shadow over his face then what is actually technically possible go give him a little unnatural feel. Thanks for the crit.

@Jim Lee: Steal the color?.. A lot of people do the CA.org color BG thing in their sketches around here, just take a screen shot of any
forum page and use the color picker in photo shop
