I'd suggest you do some quick pose studies, because your gun chick and other people are kinda stiff. It would be helpful and it is hell of a fun. Just pick some ref photos, get a timer and draw for 5 mins each. Try not to depict all that you see, just the gesture and mood of the different poses - the main lines, directions and forces. Check out the "Force" book by Mattesi, on the topic of pose.

Hi there! Some cool lookin faces

Watch that space on the bridge of the nose, I think you're squishing the faces too small, sometimes the eyes are too close together. Don't be afraid to make it longer than you feel comfortable with!

Will do, i know my characters are often really stiff...just gotta do some more gesture and sport studies to capture the movement. Thank you

teapo Thank you,by the way i still owe you a pencil tutorial but by the looks of your own pencils, you"ll be making tutorials for us, really soon.

kiwigarbage Thank you , you're right i'm just too used to draw the same faces...gotta draw some more different characters and faces.

    Ramalooke Thank you.

Here is another color practice/WIP, the body looks weird but i"ll fix it... anyways back to my real work.

    Alex.

First of all: Thanks for visiting my sketchbook and your advice! I don't know, how to achieve that goal, but it will be possible by practicing...

Yeah, right: It's impossible to improve in all areas. I am not as good in drawing to give advices, but I have some ideas, you could think about and maybe you try one of them: I would suggest to go on with pencil if you want to create the first step of a comic page. I heard, that many started pencil pages (for money) after they had inked others artworks. I think drawing with ink will help a bit because you have to decide where to push a thicker line on the paper, more crosshatching decisions (than with pencil) and you also have to produce greyscales by the lines (not by choosing the kind of the pencil or by pushing the pencil harder on the paper).

You also may have an interest in changing a figure of a comic book by drawing the same figure in a different angle, but same position, e.g. the figure in the book is from front, running. Now you try to draw the figure from behind or the side. If you want to add a difficult level you could combine it with frog perspective or eagle perspective. Don't think, you have to do that from mind. You could use any other reference material, you can get (muscles, photos, foreshortening help...)

In Japan there was a series of reference photography books for comic artists, which was called "Pose File" - but it is out of stock and very expensive today. I think anatomy-Webstocks like human-anatomy-for-artist and female-anatomy-for-artist.com could help also and they're cheaper to buy some stuff.

    dragonlord1989 Thank you

surus Hey, thank you but my problem is that i still didn't decided for my self in which path i would go with my art so for the past year or so i've been struggling between comics and realistic art, and i still can't decide where i want to go with it, mean while i think sometimes it kinda hurts my progress and these days i got to the point that i lost all the "imaginative" stuff that you could see in the first pages of my SB thread and now doing only studies and pictures for contests and stuff....oh well i hope i"ll find my way soon and the inspiration will return to me.

    paranoiak Thank you

Here is a crappy study from tonight....

    Migma1 Thank you

I ain't got quick tips except just keep practicing and studying from life and from pictures, also study works of artist that you like and try to understand (with the media options these days you can even ask them) how they work and what is the process that they make from the early sketch to a finished piece.

I'm also promised to make a tutorial on my pencil works and scaning tips, i hope i"ll finish it this month.

dude... commissioned pencil piece is so fking bomb... the digitals are still pale in comparison to your traditional work but i can definitely see the improvements in your color choices and it doesn't seem to be super saturated as before like in some of your old pieces.

let's keep each other on our toes bro!
