Character Line Art Help

Alright, so I'm kinda new (As in I had an account and never used the bloody thing.) Anyway, I really think I need some help with my line art making. I am using Painter X, although I have access to Flash and Photoshop CS2 as well. I am working from a tablet, and seem to be having issues getting those crisp lines that everyone seems to be getting. Heres what I've got for starters.

Aaaand heres what Ive got for basic line art. Im not fond of it. It works out with the back, I think, but not with the front view. Its missing something, and Im really not sure what.

I think you mean the linewidth. It's not consistent enough to make important things stand out. Personally, i like to use pens (varying from 0.1 to 0.5) to ink, so i have control over it. I also like to use Illustrator, as it works in a similar way and smoothens out lines that are a bit shaky when i use the tablet. Also, Illustrator doesn't need a high res sketch.

For Photoshop and Painter, it works a bit different, as the wacom reacts to every shake of your body. To get smooth lines here, you gotta scan high res and work with several brushsizes. That way, when you zoom out, the li'l trembles won't get noticed. Painter also has several tools that imitates 'natural media', that you can adjust and play around with to personalize. Use this to get your ideal line.
