    A Bit Koontzy Portrait Sketchbook

I work in digital and I'm starting back up in traditional, mostly watercolor and acrylic. I've got some work done in craft paint on youtube
    ( http://youtube.com/user/rainonme166 )
Working on getting some better angles set up in my new apartment before I do that quite often.

I've got a thing for faces, thats all I can find myself drawing. I don't have much patience for landscapes and I can do a couple animals. Bodies and faces, generally female. Maybe I can correct it here, or maybe it's okay.

Here's my SP to start it off.. crit me hard, and on the videos if you please.

I'm the oposite. I'm coming from the traditional to digital.
Well done portrait. But this is digital isn't?
Where is your watercolor and acrylics? Show those too.
My Blog or My Sketchbook would benefit from your comments.

With your SP, it seems to me that the bottom half of the face conveys a lot of emotion, but the top half is lacking by comparison. That is to say, the eyes feel rather lifeless, and they'll need a lot more work due to their significance among facial features. I would go as far as to say that the eyes and mouth feel like they belong to two separate portraits due to this clash.

On the other hand, the portrait does exemplify a modest value range that complements the piece nicely. I feel that some of the darks could be darker though, such as the dark behind the ears.

Faces are great for practice, for they can stand alone as a marvelous piece of work. It takes a lot more to make a study of an elbow stand out with as much aesthetic appeal as a face. My only concern is that you don't dwell in a comfort zone. Try painting what you an uncomfortable painting - it will only help to improve your skills in the long run.

Your traditional paintings look lovely, and it'd be great if you could post some of those ASAP

    Welcome to CA

Thanks for the great responses and crits, I feel really welcome!
I got a bit hung up over trying to show you traditional work (obvious lack of posts since my thread started), If theres any excuse I'm in the middle of moving, so I can't spread my things all over the floor and have at it.

I did some sketcher sketches to relax, heres three faces that I timed myself about 8 min each. After that I spent about 45 min cleaning them all up.
I'm least satisfied with the darker one, you can kind of see the structure was all over the place

    not a portrait

I went ahead and tried a still life with acrylics. It turned out horrible, whether its my fault for using craft paint in lieu of missing acrylic colors or just a lack of patience and technique..

I didn't give up though, I threw an apple in the window and painted it out in corel instead which was much easier practice
