I've decided it's time I started a sketchbook to try and get some feedback on my work so far.

Nice stuff. I like your use of contrast (or chiaroscuro, to make it sound fancy). Personally, I'd like to see the textures a little stronger. Not a lot, just a little.

Good stuff, I'd suggest changing it up a bit more with the enviros, but aside from that, looks good.

Peter K: I'll try and push the textures a little more in future and up the detail level. At the moment I tend to hit a point in a image when it comes to detail and end up not been sure where to go, I think working from reference will help and it's something I need to do more of.

BlazeF: I'm going to try and work in my sketchbook a little more to help me change things around and plan a more interesting image. I mainly just jump straight into photoshop and start painting which is why alot of it looks the same, and I tend to fall into a simular pattern that sort of works for me.

All promising beginnings with a ripe artistic quality I'm looking forward to explore, branch out, and become a foundation of it's own. What you should try doing is to work on each of your best pieces or the ones you feel are the ones with the most potential to be more than they are in their current states and expand on them. The first of the one's done last week is commendable, but I feel like it's missing something - maybe a forest canyon or a deep cave beyond the trees could be an idea. I noticed the trees on both sides are blurred, another of your unfinished prospects. I like your work a lot, please private message me the next time you update.

Some of these have really strong colour tonal range and colour choices...as others have said it would be nice to see you give a little more love to a piece or two-would be nice to see where you take things when you add more detail

daveneale – thanks for the comment, I totally agree about the detail and it’s something I need to try and work on, I think I fall into the trap of trying to paint to fast and want to move on before its really finished and sometimes I just get to a point where I don’t know where to take it and make things look worst. It's definitely something to think about for the next one.

You've made some good pregress since you've started this thread, today's pics really look good, the balance in shades of colour is nice even if the composition of some of those last pic may look similar, but it's a good exercise.

Looking good. I like the colors and the contrast you have going. On a lot of your stuff, my eyes want to settle on something, and there's nothing there to focus on. I think putting some more detail into it as some have suggested would help a lot. I'd love to see one where you really focused in on it.

Looking better and better, but don't trust your brushes so much. Even though brushes can be very helpful, do a little bit of pencil studies now and then. And try to break out of comfort zones, do something do don't like because you suck at it. That's what really makes you improve.

Definitely need to work more in my sketchbook, starting to rely too much on the brushes to create things and less on my ability to draw.

Nice work here, you definitely have an eye for colour. I would suggest doing more value studies. Try painting something in B&W such as interiors, landscapes and figures and learn how to make the form readable. A lot of your compositions seem a bit empty in your environmental stuff.

Also, try not to get too caught up using other artist's brushes. Try making your own and go from there. You'll appreciate the end result much more. When you have the foundations down you can play with the advanced stuff as much as you like
