I think Solaris #1 may be one of your best to date.

Just talked to George Mann at BL. He said you were doing some covers for them and that they were fantastic. Now I see what he was talking about.

    Great work!

Amazing paintings. I love those saturated shadow edges on Solaris 1, and also the proportions on your Knight of Cups. To me, the face seems a little large on the Elf Fair piece. But, wow, really great paints!

Lovely colour and I really enjoy the quiet, measured pace of how your forms work together. The first,in particular, makes me think of John William Godward - which aint no bad thing. I rather like too, how you have brought off the movement in that last one with the dress and not made it look corney.
In terms of book covers they give off a sort of 'feel good' mood that is hard to put my finger on as to what makes that so.....but it would certainly tempt me to pick it up from the self and read the back cover.

im trying to think of what i dont like about these. its hard to crit such good work!

I think that you could have pushed for a more interesting lighting in some of these
solaris 1 has some neat effects going on with the lighting in the sail.
other than that they all seem to be standing outside, mid-day, with a slight overcast.
this all could be because of the art direction of the book though
    still amazingly solid work.

    OmertA - thanks!

DSIllustration - thanks man, that was one of those occasional pieces that just kinda felt like it painted itself, so I don't really think too much about it, but glad to know it's going over well

    Victor B - thanks!

Nathan Long - they've been great to work with. I'm waiting for sketch approval on a new on for them that I'm reallllllly excited about

/ev - thanks, for prep I just do three thin coats of liquitex gesso in alternating directions

    VampireHungerStrike - thanks!

Chris Bennett - good to know they do the job. once your hand picks it up, my work is done and it's someone else's responsibility

squidmonk3j - thanks, gotta love those big Kirby fingers

    Matt Smith - thanks!

    Artsy Fartsy - thanks!

    spookybabydoll - thanks!

Robert.B - I photo ref for all my figures, though the costumes in these (except the first) are largely invented

    Dreln - thanks!

roidvoid - thanks, always something to keep in mind

    christ - thanks!

    robogabo - thanks!

Jason Snair - I do actually. Generally I don't think to shoot progress shots, but I do have some for the Knight of Cups:

Wow! Beautiful work! You're colors and lighting are impressing the hell out of me! It's really good to see a fresh batch of work from ya, especially the WIP. Good stuff man. Good time the other day btw. I'm glad that all worked out. Definitely don't get out and chill with fellow local artists enough. Keep it up Dave!

great work Dave...I love your use of color...you don't overdo it, and they still have plenty of life.

I can't offer any big crits, but there are a couple minor things I see...#2 - the metal texture feels fantastic around his neck, but his shoulder armor starts to feel a little plastic....#3 - I'm wondering if the bottom half of the figure should be receiving a cast shadow to help tie into the BG lighting more?

Anyways, I love these man...really solid.
