A quickish nude study. I should do a lot of these... They're fun and teach a lot! I mean... Who wouldn't like drawing sexy women ( or men, for that matter )?

I began this by blocking the light and shadow-areas as well as I could.

Had to do one quick sketch before bed. I had no ref for this, and it shows.

Still have a lot to learn about shadows and light, and how they play on the face of a person. More of these to come too, though.

The face is now complete. Well, there's probably a lot of stuff I could do with it, but I'm tired of fighting. It's there, it's done, period.

I also started a nude body / color-study, this time in Corel Painter X. It's nice to get back to Painter after lots of drawing on PS - it's just so different in a way.

Anyway, here's the stuff.

Here's an update on the nude study that I'm trying to paint.

I'm already fearing the hands... I should really practice drawing / painting hands. I'm also concerned about the hair, which I'm trying to block at the moment. It's *not* going to look good. Ah well - I'll try my best.

Just some quick doodles. I really need to churn out these... A lot. Heck, I should prioritize these. To draw as many bodies in different positions, and as quickly as possible. And enjoy doing it.

Check the proportions on that last portrait, especially the facial features. your technique in blending and value is great, but you should practice more on proportions and forms(in terms of line drawing). That's the number thing to get right before moving on to value and color. Keep at it, man!

Here it is, as finished as I am now able to make it.

I even titled it "Craving".

Ah, that is, indeed, true. Especially with the nose / eyes -area. It's an older portrait, though, and basically it sucks.

Ah well, I'm way too lazy to re-work the proportions on it right now. Heck, the first portrait which I made with the help of grids is the one on top of this page, and I definetely need to start doing that more.

The end-result was much more satisfying.

I think I'll do a few 'wireframe' -portraits tomorrow; in that I only draw the lines and post the results here.

I really need to work on three things now: 1. Anatomy, 2. Proportions, and 3. Colours. A lot of work, but I'm up to the challenge!

Oh, and thanks for the comment - I appreciate it!

Edit: About line-work, though. Ack, that is another thing I want to improve on... I'm actually very frustrated with my line-work at the moment! If you have any tips on what I should do... How I should approach it... I'd appreciate it. I want to loosen up my lines, and in the process loosen up my sketching.

Well, well... I got so distracted with some of the issues with the painting I just said was 'finished' that I had to try and re-work it a bit...

I am now officially blind towards it. I don't know if this is any better than the previous version. I'm tired. It's 6 AM. Darn it.

Instead of drawing what I should have been drawing ( the technical stuff ), I did this quickish portrait in Corel Painter X. I just enjoy it too much. :/

I'm not completely happy with my portrait-skills yet - I should try to be more bold with 'em, for one - but I'm starting to get the hang of doing quick paintings ( which helps with exprerimentation ). If I can do, say, three portraits in an evening instead of a half of one, it takes the pressure off of having to do 'good', so to speak.

Anyway, here's one quickie I did today - don't have much time to draw now, unfortunately. :/ Anyway, here it is.

Edit: the proportions are a bit wonky. Ah well :/

I think its great to work after photo reference.
I have a great exersice that I find more helpful then character stills and photos. Put on a dvd movie and pause it in a scene you think look good. Then paint the scene. Eyepick color and proportions, everything. Dont do to much detail, Nailing the dynamics is more important.

Damn, I should definetely do that. I will warn you, though... They will definetely suck at first. x)

Here's a quick face-paint in Corel Painter. It's unfinished, but I think I'm going to leave it as such. Has a certain roughness to it that I kind of like.

You should try using more saturated colors on the skin perhaps? otherwise, excellent work!

Sorry for the lack of updates - I was visiting my family and friends in another town for a week, so I had no time, nor the tools, to draw. :/

Here's a wip of James Callis ( Gaius Baltar from BattleStar Galactica ). One of my favourite performances on the best sci-fi serie ever.

I'll try to do him justice. The hand is still a bit off, size-wise. :/

I have also begun to prefer Painter for portraits. I just like the touch more.

Got rid of the hand ( it started to seriously bug me :/ ), and added in Six. Still very, very in progress. I might expand the canvas even further, and add other BSG -related stuff to the sidelines. Or I just might leave it as this kind of 'family-portrait'.

Great movie, easily among my favourites from the Coen brothers. Didn't know the actor had died though. :/

Here's an update on the BSG portrait, fixed a lot of stuff, but still there's much to be done...
