i was trying to just capture the shapes and light, and not worry too much about the detail

keep it up
matt.
Thanks Matt!
'smy birthday!
and im giving you all presents?
oh well its fun for me too P:<
_i have a problem
_i dont render things enough
=my stuff is too stylized
>.>
i tried to keep this from getting to warm, as many of my paintings tend to get
>.>
>:B
color studies are fun
not sure if i made it better or not /:?
I think it turned out all right
i love this color combination
a lot
walking gold!
im addicted to waterfalls
and warm colors
>.>
i really enjoyed working on this one.
When i was starting out it seemed as if it just wasnt going to work but soon (upon the addition of warm colors) i liked it a lot more! and become more inspired to finish it than i had been when i started
im not sure what it is about warm colors, i guess they just make everything more dramaticto me, thus i think the paintings going well >.>'
Im also not sure what my obsession with waterfalls is, maybe its the romantic in me P:<
lots of stuff
for the last one :v so this was inspired (probably a little too much) by whit brachna and his crazy mountainscapes
this particular scene is the result of a severe climate change, many years ago this was a tropical forest with huge mountain trees growing among the waterfalls. A cataclysmic climate change occurred and the waterfalls gently froze surrounding the trees in icy tombs.
All that remains is an arctic fungus that grows out of the frozen skeletons of wood and moss
hey mate, looks like uve got alot of developing talent there! and its great to see. if i could suggest some direction, try having a few thumbnails trying out different compositions before painting one up, i think it will help develop your compositional sensibilities. the other thing also, which i picked up from Whit when i met him down in Wellington, was to choose particular brushes for specific reasons. at the moment, the textures are great, but theyre not differentiating different materiality (eg snow vs rocks). good work though! keep it up
lots of progress here, the enviros are getting better and better, keep trying new brushes and doing color studies from photos or life, if you cant figure out the color, use the color picker on the ref and try to figure out why this color is there, with each practice you will realise how saturation lightness and hue are related and color with be second nature to you. You should try the smudge too, take a brush, with opacity set on pressure, and set the smudge to 100% strenght, its realy cool to remove the contrast from areas where you dont want the eye to focus. Keep it up !
Thaw Naing - it is miserable, those /are/ my weakest areas. i tend to work sporadically and dont usually have enough time to make comp sketches, because then i usually run out of time for the day. and come the next i have no love for the painting anymore
its something i definitely have to work on
white C - i fear the smudge brush because it slows my computer down like a mother, and its easily recognizable as the 'smudge brush' but who knows, i shall try it out
anyways, i havent been doing much (is a lazy bum)
but i did some figure studies yesterday and today (they look better if you squint)
and yes, i know, his head is HUGE
^_^
and im taking an oil class on sudays so i might post soma dat

Everything looks so blurred. You need to work your edge control a bit more mate.

well i have learned that the human eye has only a small area that is truly in focus, the rest essentially made sharper by your brain
i like to soften the edges that arent essential and use sharp edges to attract attention.
i like to think that there is nothing wrong with it, it is my own stylistic choice, you can take it or leave it
new study!
Excellent enviros! Where ya been? It's been months

WOW... its been almost a year.
i should upload some shit before this gets too out of hand.
Big news :
I was featured in issue 46 of IFX magazine! (first image below)
i actually really hate this painting now. figures... >_>
I also got accepted to SCAD, i will be majoring in Game Design, minor in Visual effects. Im so excited, school sucks from here until then.
at least i have my art.
started doing some daily self portraits after looking through algenpfleger's SB
killer work man i remember looking at your work 6 months ago on DA thinking "damn i want to learn how to paint like this guy "
i would love to see you explore your ideas through traditional mediums a bit more especially some loose work from your SB would be wicked to check out
when are you attending SCAD? fall of 2010 ? anyways i bet you are pumped for art school
hopefully if things go my way il be at NSCAD or Cooper union fall 2010 (hah chances of cooper union are slim ) though i think il be going more the fine art interdisciplinary route.
i feel like were in the same boat/fleet
keep up the wonderfull work looking forward to more

Zorcron thanks! I'm going to be starting in the fall, just found out I got 18k a year to go.... you could say I'm excited. But you'd be wrong. I'm CRAZY EXCITED
and as for the sketch book..... I dont really draw traditionally that often. At all really. :C See we have to keep these stupid ass art journals for school, but they have to be designed well and have more words than drawing. So random doodling doesn't count, and when I sit down to sketch I feel guilty because I have so many journals I have to do.
but I'll see what I can do.
dan liimatta yeah, though that hard work has kinda stalled recently. I feel like I'm in a holding pattern. :/

Anywho, I doodled up some stuff today, got inspired by Daniel C's livestream. The first two are from today, the rest are form the past few weeks.
also, if you haven't gotten carl dobsky's dvd on perspective YOU AREN'T ALIVE!!!
your killin it man keep up the great work progressing with every post
have a good one
