    Into the Light

I'm a new poster. About to graduate from Animation school but I'm a 2d artist at heart.

Thought I'd post some of my stuff I've done in the past few years.
These are pencil crayon on Black paper.
Most are done from photographs, I have other images on my deviant art page that are Studies of Alex Ross / Norman Rockwell but decided not to post those.

    Critics welcome.
Hoping to learn to work digitally as I'm guessing that's where most company jobs are oriented now a days.

Some animation stuff can be seen here:

The little bits of variety make this work really well as a series I think. (And with the title, too) Nice stuff!

I love black manners. Be carefull with your tone ranges not to make someone appear older then they are. Light hits but also diffuses in the skin. Otherwise, it looks like some of those wrinkles are worthy of the grand canyon

    Thanks

DeathAndDisinfectant: I normally just use a mid tone and a highlight color, like grey and white prismacolor.

SEVANS: Thanks, I really need to work on color theory now.

anjin: This white on black started as a series of the 7 deadly sins but then I just really liked the technique and stuck with it.

Moikey: I guess the normal way we all learn to draw was with pencil so basically it's drawing the shadows, and I really like the concept of drawing with light.

lemming-clone-: I use to do B&W photography, and the title for the series was what I use to tell the model people, "Come forward, get into the light please," and it reminded me of studio shots with a black backdrop.

    egerie: Black Manners is?

Thanks for the advise, I tend to make people older then they seem all the time, that's why I try to stay away from doing people I know in this style.

The problem is that it's very hard to erase white off of black paper, it either smudges or gets a dull blurry residue on the paper, so I can't put down any outlines or guide marks as I work. The most I can do is sort of dab the spot with my finger to pick up a little color off of it if I did it too bright, so I get really scared if I have to fill in any of those crevices but I guess I have to bite the bullet sooner or later.

If only there was an un-do in real life.
