I like the way Hogarth over-stresses masses and gives them 3D impression.

making some nice progress here, keep it up with all the studies (they will help out immensely in the future) you work a lot from photo ref. I'm noticing, not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be a bad habit to fall into just painting and drawing from photos all the time, try to do more from your imagination, push your skills and test yourself, I'd also recommend a lot more actual life drawing, drawing from photos is fun and all, but you will learn much more from drawing/painting from life as opposed to photos. Keep up the good work and keep up with all the studies they will pay off in the future, just keep in mind what I said, its very easy to draw from life as well, if you cant get into a figure drawing class at a local community college, just take a small sketchbook with you wherever your go and just sketch what you see, the people around you, scenery, unique clothing, funny faces, random designs/shapes, all this will help out with your art. and then when you go to draw from your imagination it will be that much better from dedicating all the time to those studies. Hope this helps out. Keep up the good work.
To live is to create, to create is to live. Without art and music, I do not know how I would get by in my day to day life.

Thanks sadpencil!
You're right, I should do more life drawings. I'll try to find opportunities for that...

Hey, this time all of the drawings (except when indicated) are no ref's, I drew the poses myself! I'm finally learning to create my own poses, I'm really happy!![]()

Great progress here, I'd like to see some color works too )
thx eternity
Hmmm, you'd like to see some colorworks.... me too![]()
Seriously, I have lots of fun now honing my anatomy skills and (more importantly) building up the figure, drawing own poses. It feels great now, feels like I'm making progress effortlessly now (after lots of struggle beforehand). So I'd like to stick to that as long as it works well
no refs again

Your figure drawings improved! Keep on working!![]()
Thanks, definitely glad to hear that!! :-D
Hey wow! Awesome improvement here, especially with the life drawings. I think you're getting some nice fluidity in those live posesDo you ever have the chance to do longer live poses? It might be good to focus on some detail work from life too if you ever get the chance.
Thanks fox, feels great to hear that!
I agree long poses would be good... I'm gonna ask next time. Probably heavily depends on the model...

There's a lot of improvement in your latest figures compared to the early ones. If I have to give one crit I'd say that your construction is still a little sloppy. Pay more attention to perspective and draw a simple grid or guidelines if necessary to keep things lined up. I did a quick sketch over your drawings to explain what I mean. I hope it helps.
Hey thanks fantasyartist,
I'll try to pay attention to contruction some more.
Here are two from imagination (it's an exciting feeling to finally be starting out to create own poses without reference!!):

Hey,
here's an important question for me:
I really like doing hatchings like in the last picture. I drew it with a simple felt pen on normal printing paper. Are there special pens for this, and how do you call them? I am thinking about some kind of very thin fine liner. Maybe multiple colored ones so that white highlights on black ink are possible. Or something like that.
What am I supposed to ask for in my art supply shop?
Good stuff, and keep going. You should try studying from Michael Hamption's Figure Drawing Book, Vilpuu's Drawing Manual, and Preston Blair's Cartoon Drawing so your work can have much more solid form on your figures. Please check out my sketchbook and feel free to comment. I would greatly appreciate it.
