I would like to get better with my drawing/painting, and I would like to start with figurative art stuff. I've attatched two studies and I will try to update my work as regularly as possible! If you have something critical on your mind, don't hesitate

Here's some more. Recently, I've made some pencil studies on eyes, lips and noses, I'll digitalize them sometime soon.

Some more. The girl with the curtain was pretty fun, I did it within little more than half an hour and I like the way it turned out :-)

In your colour work lay of the pure black for shading. use darker natural tones. The black really cools the colours energy and makes the skin tones quite muddy too.

Otherwise just keep at it.

I think that for your digital figure studies, you should be working with a larger brush. Larger brushes means a smoother, and less 'muddy' results. It will also help your eye learn to recognize values and overall make things more smooth and less sketchy. Also, it forces you to analyze each stroke more carefully.

Other than that, just keep pluggin' away.

I'll try to do that. I think I know what you mean. I often actually try to avoid making a "decision", a clear line. I guess I'll practice getting rid of this habbit. Thank you!

Here's a slight update, and a new one. The new one, I drew it myself and then used the underyling ref image to improve things.

When you're drawing cubes & cilinders, be sure to draw all lines, including the ones you can't see. This will help you understand the object, allowing you to draw it more correctly.

The form on the figures looks pretty good.
Don't worry too much about technique, you'll learn a lot the more you do it.

than you, I'll try! Right now, I'm getting prepared for an examn, so I study a lot, but when I'm tired of it, I sit down to paint for an hour or so. That's what I did right now. Here's some more details added.

I know I should finish some pieces, but I always feel like doing something new :-)

I also have difficulties switching to bigger brushes because the acrylics brush in Artweaver is very pressure sensitive, thus whenever I apply too much pressure, it simply overpaints a lot. This is why I constantly have to vary the brush size. Still, I don't feel like I had enough confidence to change the brushs configuration, I'd much prefer to use something established and proven, that's why I stick to the soft wet acrylics tool which I know many Artweaver users also like.

Another thing is that I wonder whether you think it's OK to work from photo references, the way I have been doing. I usually draw from the reference, than put it above my sketch to check the anatomy and correct it. I only correct what's really wrong and leave the rest as it is. Or do you think I should go on the way I do? Or do you feel that I should do more studies on drawing figures of my own, like reading Andrew Loomis' book, or something like that?

I have a mac so I don't use Artweaver, but from their main page I see that in brush options (at least in opaque acrilycs') there are SIZE and MIN SIZE. If you want your brushes vary only in opacity but not in size, set both of these values to the same number.

I think that draw from reference (photos or, bettter, real semi nude chicks ) is always better that from any other source. Any study of loomis, or any other author by the way, is done in HIS own way, so you're just copying their style.

Keep it up!. There is a visible improvement in just two pages, so just figure what can you do with more practice

I would recommend not lopping off the hands and feet - I've noticed a few figures that look like you've chopped their hands and/or feet off. Draw the hands and feet! No matter how hard they are!

I'll try to draw hands and feet explicitly in the future. I've worked on the last one and tried to draw her hand, and I'm pretty happy with the result. The right hand, though, is out of the frame of the ref pic I have, so it's very difficult to do for the moment. But I think if I'll draw the hands and feet on the next couple of pictures, I'll get some practice. Thank you!
