    Icon IDW #69: Happiness Dispenser

    Topic: Happiness Dispenser

Background: This round of IDW is all about positive energy and happy thoughts It is totally up to you as a designer how it would work and what happiness would look like. Pure happiness could be either in liquid, solid or gas state, might be digital or analogue, waveform or particles, whatever.

Try to interpret the topic with a bit of originality. Of course a keg of beer, weed or sextoys are all happiness dispensers in their own right but try to come up with even weirder solutions.

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw a Happiness Dispenser!
    2. Figure out in what form happiness comes. Your personal take on it is welcome.
    2. That's it... now draw!

    Deadline: Sunday May 4

They are fun, but I'm thinking of something that could be a bit more twisted, like a war machine with a yellow smiley face on it.

Thinking about it a little more, maybe like a "care package" like crates in a net with a parachute. But when people gather round in "happiness" its transforms into some sort of anti infantry assault droid spouting hypnotic subliminal propaganda and anyone who resists it is terminated.

I don't know if this kind of "personal take" is actually "welcome", I'd probably appreciate some feedback on that one before I start drawing.

Nightblue: Good to have you in here I still owe you a duel don't I?

Ginji: Hm I was thinking of doing something out of the ordinary with this topic, but I'll allow it for the sake of variety. I did say it was open to interpretation after all

I just can't stop think of Fallout's 'Vault Boy' logo - what kind of dispenser would he be if he was on the side of a machine?

Despite the masses of revision, I'm going to try very hard to finish this round. Fantastic topic.

Yea I kinda feel bad for *killing all the bunnies* with my idea, I'll go for something a little less cliche.

I'll try the whole VR pod idea. See what happens

well ... a machine thart deliver's happiness is ripe for sarcasm and satire
    here's the real challenge

    Don't look at it sarcastically!
think about what makes you happy
    simplify it
    deliver it
    draw it
To see the world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wildflower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour.

Soma and those lovely type writers from Naked Lunch. Oh, I just got my idea and it fits me like a glove. Yoitisi - Can we use panes like say a comic? or a triptych?

    Chaosrocks: Indeed

Tsujni: I want a rendering of the product itself as well, and keep it short. 3 to 4 panes to tell a short scenario are fine.

Do you need to have a render? or can it just be 2D art?

Ginji: Render as in finished painting/drawing of your design. Renderings are not necessarily done in 3d cad programs

This is a damned fine topic once you sit and think about it.
Could be anything, gas liquid or solid, an IV, a pill, waves (visual, audio, subliminal anything...), brainwashing. It could be medicinal, practical, a tool, a luxury, a narcotic. it could be a weapon (which is how i think im taking it) and every path goes further. Is it a weapon of war or pacification? covert or common? a tank/vehicle? airborne? handheld? etc etc.
hoping to finish on this one, it really is a strong one i can run with
    good luck guys

    *EDIT*
can anyone think of any really interesting delivery methods for ordinance? ie bombs/shells. At the moment i'm stuck with artillery or long range missile and they're both pretty bland.
i should point out that there's a more interesting side to my design that i wont mention just yet. i'd just like to have a more intersting delivery system to work with. (though about zeppelin as they're pretty cool but figure they're not so great as so slow and noisy)

yoitisi: THanks! If you have time for a duel this coming weekend/week it'll be swell, as I'm getting a much needed 1 week break from school and can use all the motivation I can get to get out of bed. If not no worries

Some things that jolted my mind:

I should be able to make the deadline seeing that my last final is in an hour. It's almost certain that a happiness dispenser would look fairly non-threatening, friendly, and maybe colorful. Now the question comes to: what kind of society would promote/need a happiness dispenser? This may take a darker route yet.

Forget about the 18 hour work day, the lackluster economy, and the sky-rocketing bio fuel price! Step in the Salon of Joy. Sit down, close your eyes, feel the world shrink around you into a much more comforting size. Our harmless brain stimulator mask will bring you the best and only happiness you'll feel in this world

    Final

Still another 24 hours to go on this one, make sure you've posted your finals and mark them as final.
