OK so let's start this. I post a lot on dA, but I plan to document some of what I have learned while drawing here.

So far, I suck at many things, such as lines and colors... ok, make it everything. I suck at everything, I said it. But I do want to improve and I'mma gonna be documenting my crap here. Ahahaha

So here is my first post, Sif, from Romancing Saga the game. It's fan art, straight from the sketch pad and colored with the help of the multiply tool in PS. I'm still trying to figure out how to color her properly and ink her properly even, since my eye for lines has gone blind.

A good way to ink something is to use real ink

try taking your penciled drawing and taping a piece of graphix 360 over it. using either copic or micron archival pens for a nice and thin line.
from here black india ink and a #2 sable (or synthetic) brush works well for the thick and thin lines. after a few practice runs with that i would then take your drawing, place it on a light table and get a nice piece of bristol, place it over your drawing and ink that.

scan that in and start to color.
the nice part about the photoshop is you can change the color of the line you have from black to any other color using the saturation tool. I personally like changing it to a nice brown.
you have the right idea for the multiply layer for the initial coloring but after that creat another lay on top of the piece and paint opaquely. since your clines arent black they now become part of the piece and you can eye dropper the color you want. use a little burn adn dodge tool to make the highlights and shadows pop nicely and youre done.

Thank you very much! But those materials don't sound cheap and easy to find here, I'll keep an eye out for them and save from my funds. I don't even have a light table yet

This is an apple I've been practicing on, I needed to work on light and other things. Color mainly, choosing from the right ones and all that. So far I'm having trouble with the shadowy area on the left and the right, which are not really shadows but dark reflections. The are turning up to look like dents...

I will work on this tomorrow. I need my sleep.

Oil paintings from oldest to newest. I've been taking classes for these stuff... but I need some other opinions... (The black and white abstract and the blue-green man aren't my brain children, they are copied from another source. I don't know who sadly, if anyone knows do tell so I can credit the original painters properly)

hey buddy thank you for stopping by my sketch book
the light table can be made out of an old window, a desk lamp and a cardboard box ( thats how i did it in college

)
and the other materials, depending on wich ones you buy, can put a hole in yer wallet.......but its sooooo worth it. actually a lot of the stuff i own has been accumulated over the years.

hey good start. that last sketch shows alot of promise. the thing ive found recently is that if you really want to improve then you have to do daily practice. just as though you were training for a sports team or something. find exersises that you think will help develop certain skills.

work hard and have lotsa fun. keep em coming!!!!

The apple looks great, imo.

Biggest complaint here is that the proportions on the 1st drawing are off. Her head looks too big for her body. Other than that, just keep practicing and draw draw draw!

The apple is looking really nice and that girl in the last update is looking good too, altough it still needs more work, specially in the hair which is still looking more like a bunch of black lines. But the face is already looking good.

The drawing in your first post shows you have some problems with anatomy so thats something you should work on with the help of good books and life drawings.

Thanks for the comment man... I like your stuff too. The one of the girl with the headphones is cool. Though, the second seems like the edges are a little dull or undefined. But I like it.
