The Green Fairy or The Green Muse - the picture/person/personalization of Absinthe.

Even though the effects were exaggerated, the colourful personalization of Absinthe has been strong in both the bohemians drinking it and the people battling it.

Although Puss in Boots was fairly recent, perhaps one off the list of notable Heroes (or villains, or one of each) of the Redwall series.

    A decent list here.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redwall_Friend_&_Foe

Further bios here, since regular wiki is lacking for some characters.
    http://redwall.wikia.com/wiki/Redwall_Wiki

Could see some kick ass futuristic Martins in there.

    A few more character/archetypes.

    The Little Giant Slayer

    Description:

-Often in troubled, dangerous or life threatening situations.
-Mostly fights with bare hands, but not exclusively. Grapples and climbs.
    -Either gender

    The Militant Instructor

"A master of arms and a seasoned veteran of many battle in charge of training fresh recruits in the art of combat. He teaches with harsh methods and an aggressive attitude. Although he's known to he lighten up with a bit humor, the line between genuine humor and cynicism is blurred. Always looking for an opponent, whether it is a true foe or an unfortunate student not making the cut..."

    -Weapons/ Combat Instructor
    -Aged/Older Character
    -Aggressive, cynical, brash nature
    -Male character

    The Flawed Artificer

He sought to perfect his craft due to his own flawed body and gains a sense of wholeness with each project he works on."

-Mastered the art of weapon crafting, whether is guns, blades, etc.
-Physically disfigured/ physically handicapped in some way.

Here are several ideas. If you like, I could develop briefs further.

Heavy Metal Mascot: Iron Maiden has Eddie. Disturbed has The Guy. Now an up-and-coming new band needs a mascot for their CDcovers, singles, and promotional material. The twist? Death Holler is a Dutch country/metal crossover inspired by the likes of Mägo de Oz (Celtic Metal from Spain) and Cruachan (Celtic Metal). Death Holler wants to take bluegrass, oldtime Appalachain, and modern country music into 21st century death metal scene. All they need is a good character to go on their first EP's cover.

Miskatonic University: Keeping in the mascot theme, what would Miskatonic U.'s mascot be, and how might it look?

Mrs. Who, Mrs. What, or Mrs. Which: From Madeline L'Engle's book A Wrinkle in Time.

Level Boss for Grand Theft Scooter: The kid's gateway game to Grand Theft Auto, of course.
Take a look at my series of in-depth critiques, like this one of Salvador Dali's hidden portrait of Lincoln.

Scott's Sketchbook: Check out my sketchbook. Will swap C&Cs.

Apologies if any of these have been suggested, or if I'm missing the idea completely... they're pretty specific figures but I noticed Joan of Arc had been done recently so that may not be such a no-no.

...so maybe I'm a closeted philosophy geek but...

I'm a huge Sam Beckett fan and his Waiting for Godot has gone on tour in England starring Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan; it has also come to New York starring John Goodman and Nathan Lane.

I think it'd be pretty awesome to see a redesign on the various pairings - either Pozzo/Lucky or Vladimir/Estragon especially as they've almost always been portrayed as something of upper class vs. waif-vagrants neither of which has ever seemed to be overly contemporized.

The silent guardian of the long, lost civilization of Lemuria.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemuria_(continent)
This is also interesting for inspriation

From what I've read, Lemuria was a civilization that, like Atlantis, had abilities that far surpassed modern abilities. In some sources that I've found( two of them are above) they talk about them having psychic abilities, and the ability to teleport and the like.

My idea is that such an advanced culture would have some sort of protector, or enforcer that would very likely out last them. Some what like alot of depictions of a golem.

Sorry if this has been suggested before but I think it would be awesome if once in a while we could get a guest judge.

This is what I'm thinking: Find say an Art Director from a high end gaming or film company who would be willing to be the guest judge for that week. (maybe only once every few months or something). They, with permission of whatever company they work for can give us a description of an upcoming or previous character that was or will be used in their game/film. The Art Director in question would have to be willing to give critiques on all the artists who choose to participate on what THEY would look for. The description would be in their own format, and they could choose their own winner separate from the poll.

It would pretty much be the same weekly CHOW but under the assisted direction or the sponsoring company just for that one week.

My thinking in doing this would be so that people not already in the business (students ect) can get some real experience with specific companies within the CA community and it may help to form networking contacts and dialog.

    The Sweeper

In Mysticville where brave knights, strong warriors, and fair (but kickass) maidens abound, where dragons wander the streets, and unicorns are as common as horses, one hero goes unnoticed. He is The Sweeper, and after the city has gone to sleep he wanders the city streets removing the trash and magical refuse (and dragon and unicorn droppings) that litter them.

No one knows where he comes from, or where he goes when the sun comes up. Those who glimpse him wandering the shadowy streets swear there's a touch of magic about him, probably the result of years of contamination from the fallout of so much discarded magic. He is neither young, nor old--though he has been there it seems since the city was born, and when it crumbles, he will be there to sweep up the dust.

-Must be male of indeterminate age
-What he sweeps with is up to you: could be magic, could be a broom, could be a machine of some sort, though the city is primarily magical and any technology should be magic based.

    Andromeda, the Chained Princess

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andromeda_(mythology)

In Greek myth, Andromeda was the daughter of arrogant queen Cassiopeia who bragged about her beauty; the gods got angry and as a punishment, Cassiopeia had to sacrifice her daughter by chaining her to a rock in the sea.

Li Ching-Yuen, (born 1677 or after, died May 6, 1933) was a Chinese herbalist, martial artist and tactical advisor. He claimed to be born in 1734, while disputed records suggest 1677. Both alleged lifespans of 199 and 256 years far exceed the longest confirmed lifespan of 122 years and 164 days.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Ching-Yuen

A friend showed me this and I thought it might be a good CHOW, considering Li Cheng-Yuen was despite his old age a Chinese herbalist, martial artist and tactical advisor. Some very intressting things I think might be made from this.

London is crying. It's just one of those days.

    Paris is such a tease.

New York is a huge s lut.

People think of Miami as a party girl, but she keeps her secrets well with an abyss of hidden depths.

Tokyo is incredibly obese, writhing and feeding. No one knows where she ends and her sisters begin.

Some people say everything is bigger in Dallas. Some people lie.

Since the flood, New Orleans just hasn't been the same.

New Amsterdam is the normal one in the family. What's their problem?

People keep saying a character can be a plant, an animal, an object, a place. All it needs is personality. Prove it. Present a city as a character.

    GOD.

In Bruce Almighty, they played around with the image of God, by making him a black man (Morgan Freeman).
I wasn't being racist by the way, Morgan Freeman's my favourite actor.
At first Bruce thinks he's just the cleaner.

In CHOW we should make a unique interpretation of God. It could be a woman, a warrior, anything.

I'd second this, but with the idea that you can choose any god you'd like (Greek, Norse, Catholic, Atheis-... Well, you know what I mean ).

Also, the idea for Transformers sounds more like an IDW idea.

It seems a bit presumptuous to offer suggestions when I have only just registered, particularly since my artistic skills lie far away from figure work. However, I though it seemed like an intriguing and flexible entry. (I’m also a fan of Baxter’s Flawed Artificer idea, that sounds cool.)

    Charybdis

Charybdis was a water nymph and daughter of Poseidon, but drew Zeus’ ire and was eventually transformed. While sometimes described as a large-mouthed monster, other sources suggest that her new form is unseen. While the extent of her transformation is unknown, the effects are not: every day Charybdis would create enormous whirlpools, and then purge the water back out.

Generally, Charybdis is paired with Scylla, an equally cursed, and semi-chimerical women who would also be a good character concept. However I personally think a vortex-creating being, whether she’s largely nymph or monster, is a more interesting choice, even if the degree of her transformation needed to be defined for the contest.

The Red God - A red superbeing in modern times who doesn't know anything of his past. Use whatever cultural dressing you'd like.

I'm kind of just posting here to remind myself the suggestion box is still here. I thought they permanently switched over to "whoever wins gets to pick."

    While we're on colors though...

The Blue Ghost - Most ghosts are just a brighter version of themselves when they were alive. But this man was bright and blue. Not only is cultural dressing up to the artist, but the reason is up to them too.
