First sculpt

Hi peeps,

here's my first sculpt, made with supersculpey. Its not baked yet... im looking for some advice on that.
I have a small oven/microwave combi-oven.. but it doesn't fit. I have access to a bigger kitchen oven,
but is it a good idea to put it in a kitchen oven or do i need a pottery oven?

if so i gotta check where I can get my hands on one. anywho, here's some photos.
I wanted to take one more shot for scale but my battery went dead.
the statue is about 20 cm high (from the feet to the top of the staff)

you cant bake him in a microwave, you need a straight up oven.no pottery oevns needed. i bake in my kitchen oven

great first sculpt btw, awesome job. the bottommost circle on his crotch drape isnt very circly. i mention this because i just spend like an hour trying to get good circles on my sculpture only to squish all of them by accident 5 seconds later.

my oven is a combination thing, so i can set it to hot air instead of microwave.
So a normal kitchen oven will do the trick? allright, thanks!

I do wonder about 1 thing.. do i need to take it off the wooden foot? Im afraid the wood might burn up in the oven.
also, if you put it in the oven.. do you need to pre-heat the oven? Maybe some silly questions but im new to this and i want to do it right

Great sculpture - nice firm hands ;-)
Never ever use hot air when you bake your sculpey. I did that - and the air tends to burn the sculpey.
You can safely leave the guy on his stand - the 130 degrees celcius wont harm wood, paper and ordinary white glue. Epoxy products will most probably become very soft at that temperature - just info in case you use those in the future.
I would suggest you run him over (again?) with some alcohol - If you intend to paint the guy - you will notice a lot of little chips and nics which you dont see in the sculpey before you start painting. GOOD LUCK

good sculpture indeed. nothing else to add, everything has been said.
use your kitchen oven. dont worry about wood, the temp. is low for something like that to happen. open few windows just for fresh air. sometimes baking sculpey and you wood base will give you an unpleasant smell...well to me at least. if you dont feel comfortable for baking your sculpture for first time just sculpt something really quick and bake it, just for practice.

i agree with running him once over with alcohol to smooth him out.

a soft brush and a sharp edged q-tip does the trick for me.
i love the details.
