Sugar can give me a short spurt of energy, but I've never found anything that'll keep me from not being tired when it's late. I guess I'm a morning person.

J... this might sound silly, but I've found it works really well for long drives and late night work when you start getting the head snaps ZZZzzzz... eat sunflower seeds (in the shell).

I shit you not... I don't know what it is, but eating sunflower seeds keeps you awake. I thought maybe it was the salt, but I tried it with the reduced salt ones while driving back and forth from NJ to SC and they work just as good. I think your brain drips just enough adrenaline to keep you awake when you're eating something, plus, it's so much work to de-shell them in your mouth, and you can eat like 50,000 of them and never be full. Try it... just bring a big paper cup or something for all those shells.

Ah! I used to do the sugar thing too! IT's only temporary. My friend who used to drive back & forth from CT to FL several times a year told me this trick. It works!

    ooooh...hoo hoo..

I got a bunch of things to keep you awake and jumpy...

    1) BAWLS HIGH CAFFEINE GUARANA BEVERAGE
    http://www.bawls.com/

a bottle or two of this stuff will have you pumped and ready to do anything at any hour of the day.

    2) MONSTER ENERGY DRINK
    http://www.monsterenergy.com

    3) Starbucks FRAPPUCINO (bottled type)

    4) sugar's always great.... Swedish Fish gets me amped...
    Sourpatch Kids.... Sour Power...

    then there's...

    5) certain alcoholic beverages keep me awake and unable to sleep.... like... Incredible Hulk (Hypnotiq & Spiced Rum) or
a Blood Mary (Vodka & Tomato Juice)

    6) Bitin on lemon slices might keep ya awake... that extra sour'll stay in your mouth....

    7) two cups of very strong GREEN TEA will keep you alert too

    8) DO NOT TAKE CAFFEINE PILLS

    9) Move around. A brisk five-minute walk can make you more alert. If you work at a computer terminal, try standing up and marching in place for about five minutes. Stretching also may help.

    10) Wash your face with cold water and brush your teeth. You may find that this refreshes you and helps you feel more alert.

Jolt Cola and Gatorade. Jolt is what I have late night during the summer and holidays w/o school/work and Gatorade is what keeps me going in early morning working hours.
