Got some good input from the sketches section of the board, and have re-worked the painting with those suggestions in mind. Please take a look when you can and let me know some other directions to take this in/ or improve upon. Actually i have a very vertical layout for this same scene with a huge structure in the middle of the lake that might probe interesting, i'll post a demo picture of that in this post soon(as not to clutter up the board.) thanks in advance,

Thats a really nice image. Its got great atmosphere, and good use of color. Just one thing, theres that one tree branch that sticks ,waaaaay out there over the river. Its a bit distracting. Other than that, amazing job.
There's a planar conflict between the water below the falls and above. The slant of the water texture is acceptable in the foreground, but the striations should not remain parallel; rather, the should move closer and closer to horizontal the closer you get to your horizon line. What you've got here is effectively a water plane that dips to to the left.
Other than that technical bit, I think the gritty, jagged water texture below the falls in is in conflict with the rendering style of the rest of the image, probably most noticeably between it and the background structures. Pick one- I'd go with changing the water, since it needs a redo anyway.
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Yes, this is a HUGE problem, although pretty much the only one.
i totally see the point about the water slanting, that is just bad planning and perspective on my part, thanks for checking it. I also understand the difference in style comment. I think i decided to make the water choppy, albeit more sketchy and didn't render it as smoothly as needed, again thanks for the advice, i'll take that and repaint the water.
M.C.Barrett could you check this water out and see if it solves the horizontal problem i had going on?-when you get a chance thanks.-doesn't solve the sketchiness, but maybe the perspective?
The redone water looks really good. And I think you can get away with having a sketched type water in the foreground and washed out and smooth colors in the background, it varies the linework and makes your eye move around.
I also really like the branch that sticks out, it looks more natural like that. The one thing that does seem to be missing is something in the right side of the background. The left side seems so heavy, it's like the two halves are not even part of the same image. I think a single structure or tower, very washed out from distance and difficult to discern, placed on the right side would really help balance the background.
Though if there is one thing that could be removed, it's the pink on the right. It doesn't flow with the rest of the image's color pallette. It almost looks like the effect of over exposing a dark area and you get blotches of pink, red and yellow.
As it stands, the image is one my favorite on this site. Good job!
good points keith v and elwell. I'll take a look at the pink and balance in the background.--i did another sketch over this where i put a tower in, but it was more to the right center of the lake, i'll try the background approach.
elwell, totally. i should just repaint the whole thing.-i'll do some tests and see where it takes me.- i'll definitely pay attention to that in the future as well.
