I agree with what you are saying - its hard to find a rendering balance. I sooo don't want you to hide any of your splendid details. I turned down the shadow layers and such in my paintover before posting it for that reason, you dont want to hide the linework. If you can find a balance though, I think it will feel much richer.

Don't need to say it, but you have AMAZING design skills. amazing. Even though you use similar texture styles in the lines of your plants as you do in character designs, they still work and really feel like the 'Luness' style. I hope we can continue to help each other out.

Hi luness, cool creatures . I searched for some crits, but didn't really found one, so I'll try to give a tip. Maybe you can make your pencil pages somewhat sharper by multiplying them in Photoshop. Did one and I think it came out a little bit better.

    Anyway, post some more .

Total badassery all over this sketchbook.

I love these updates. Your pencil work does something weird to me.

And, it's been exactly 1 year to the day that I first found your sketchbook and had my mind blown all over the walls in my office.

Christ on a cracker, those are some nice drawing. You digital colorings are getting a lot better too. You have a VERY unique style and its a very interesting and eye catching one, if I saw any one of your drawings somewhere I would immediately know who's it was. GET STARTED on a game and do the art direction for it, that would be GREAT. Maybe a Guillermo del toro movie

    Luness,

Wow, you're definitely one of my favourite artists on ConceptArt! I am floored by your work. I love pencil too, and your work has given me a lot of inspiration.

May I ask how large of a paper/sketchbook do you use, and approx how long one of these drawings takes to draw?

wilkerson – thank you! they were quite fun to do, so fun that I actually did some more!

The Tin Man Justin – thank you!!

Jakers – thanks so much for being around and for the great feedback. I really appreciate it.

    Dr poPcoRN – thank you!

prrrszalony – I’m glad you like them!

Quinn Simoes – hey man, nice to hear from you! Thanks for stopping by!

Lyno – thank you for the tip!! I actually did that with some pieces included on my last portfolio, so once I reach that stage again I’ll surely remember to check the levels, color balance, etc.

IanE – haha, thank you for the kind words man. Muito obrigado!

    Hellart – thank you!!

CUBICcube – wow! those three lines gave me such a big smile. Thank you so much for such nice words.

Munin Raven – thank you!! I’m glad you like them

freakmod – wow, it’s a great honor to inspire others to draw, to design, to post, to anything, really. Right now I’m using Canson sketchbooks made of 65LB (96 G) paper, 100 sheets of 11x14; pretty comfortable to work with. About how long do they take, hummmmmm, let’s see: they’re from 2 to 4 inches tall, so the rough sketches or gesture lines for each design are done in about 1min or 2. Then I go over the set of gestures and work on the details, volume and some cast shadow of every drawing for about 10min to 45min each, maybe? At the end it all depends on what design I'm working on at the moment, and I don’t like to rush a design just because I want to be fast. Although I love to do rough quick ones too, I think that sometimes speed leads you to a bland design, to a common place, leaving little space for those minutes or even hours necessary to push a concept or idea a bit further.
Thanks again for the kind words!

    MacTire –
hahaha, yeah. For some reason, drawing plants is sooooo relaxing.

Hone – haha, wow, thank you!

So, I’ve been reading some fantastic artbooks my sister got for me. Pure inspiration for my heart, brain, and soul, but little drawing for my sketchbook, weird. I guess I’m just taking a short break and being refueled with energy and courage to keep doing my thing, looking for improvement, all that.
Anyways, more plantas. This time, some floating plants (they float on water, on thick alien gel, on anything) and some other inspired in the Cactaceae family. I used familiar shapes and textures to keep them related to the other ones I’ve posted.

Thanks again for the kind words.

    Cheers!

From where do you dig up all this variety? Have you done a lot of plant studies or is this just something you come up with? Your brain seems be an endless well of imagination.
