hey man, your watercolors are absolutly nice. Congrats.
I finally got some time to do some sketchbookin'! The B&W drawings are bad copies from an Alex Toth story.
This has to be my favorite thread on CA.. Extremely inspiring. By the way do you know of any good instructional watercoloring books?![]()

The monk in the last one looks real badass.
Great style and colouring. I always thought watercolours were hard to work with, but you make it look so easy![]()
Sexy.

Loving the range in your works. :3 The look, feel, tone... it's all great. And black and whites are always adored.
alex toth did have some awesome handwriting
The female face in the latest post is great. It has a nice painterly style in comparison to the relatively clean-lined, comic book style you usually use.
Thanks everyone!
D.C. - I think the difficulty level depends on what you are trying to do with the watercolor. There are tons of books and videos and stuff that will explain all bullshit you have to go through to paint with water colors. Like prepping the paper and stuff. In reality though you can just slap the shit down - it's easy.
Here are some from todays life drawing. I'm pretty proud of the last one - the portrait.
ye gotta be proud of the portrait..awesome shit man...love the way you put that warm orange tone down ...though I think you could have handled hair a lil better....but awesome stuff indeed

Dude that last piece is awesome. Great job. All four of those pieces are awesome with just the red orange brown and blue, very impressive. Keep up the good work.

Don't put in too much grey/blue or they'll look too "corpsy"
Great form & great technique though![]()
I like what you do with a brush and some ink.
Got that old skool flava :.
bhanu: Thanks. You are totally right about the hair. I get really bored with fine rendering and often neglect hair - I forget that I can just treat the volume of the hair and I don't have to paint each individual hair.
remmy: Thanks!
DoubleThink: Thanks! It's true. I was doing a thing with the last ones where I would build up the shadows with blue and gray and then go back in with more skin-like tones. It kind of makes it hard to no overdo the blue.
res01ve: Thanks!
These are some recent doodles for when I'm waiting for my computer to finish being slow. I thought we were living in the future where computers were supposed to be fast! Please note the rare sci-fi-concepty alien dude! This place is finaly rubbing off on me.![]()
this post made me realize you never update with pencil sketches.

Hey S.S
I love this sketchbook! I've spent time inspecting it all thoroughly. Really accomplished. Please say your getting it out there.
I hope that I can spot some of your influences, however you are original enough to hide them well beneath a style that's very much your own. Something that I, myself doesn't do very well. I really respect what you're doing.
Besides that, thanks for the comment. I'm scared to death of watercolors and it was nice to have some positive input from someone who puts them down so effortlessly and knows what they're talking about. I appreciate it.
For what stars matter, I've given you five.
James

a la bapsi: Yeah that is weird. I never really realized that I don't really sketch with just pencils. I usually throw some ink or some water colors over them. I guess it makes a sketch feel more like a finished piece or something. Shit, I don't know.
Saturday: Thanks.
carlosranna: Everybody loves Jimmy Durante!
JPW: A lot of people have said that they are scared of watercolors on this thread. It's funny because I think drawing and painting has more to do with overcoming that terrible, paralyzing fear than anything else. I was doing some life drawing this weekend and remembered that it took me about 3 months to get up the nerve to bring in some watercolors. It's taken me a few years but I'm no longer scared of paint. Thanks for the stars!
remmy: Thanks!
Max Martelli: Thanks!
Here are some more life drawings.
Waah, I was missing my watercolors enough even without seeing this, damn!
A very loose and lovely style, but I think sometimes the amount of splotches and patterns in the background detract from the figures themselves... You work with the color fairly dry or something? (just guessing this since you said you don't prime the paper or anything, wouldn't it wrinkle really much and be really disturbing with really watery watercolors?)
1 word: <<Amazing>>, i really am speechless infront of your technique in watercolour!
ooo your tone control with your water colors got better
nice update! more more

dmitri: I see what your saying about the paint conflicting with the figure. It's something that I struggle with because I'm trying really hard to keep it spontaneous and loose. When it works it's awesome. When it doesn't it's just a messy blob of paint.
I think I keep the paint pretty runny but also pretty saturated with color. Because I'm working fast it some times runs together in unexpected ways.
I guess the paper does get pretty wrinkly. It doesn't really bother me. If these were intended to show, I would take better care to keep the paper nice but these are just practice.
Doudou: Thanks!
remmy: Thanks!
