My name is Matt Lewis, I'm an FdA Visual Communication student. The nature of my degree is focused on design and using various software and as such I do not get any drawing tuition as part of the course. I'm looking to be involved in the field of illustration (realistically) and maybe one day a character concept artist and storyboard artist (possibly including production illustration).
I NEED, in depth knowledge on:
Technical drawing - in-depth anatomy, in-depth colour theory, in-depth composition, help with proportion, and then general concepting techniques.
All of this is ok when I have reference but without it my drawings can fall a little short when I'm trying to render a full scene etc.
Also I really need a kick up the arse and constant focus on what I need to improve on to get to a professional level.
I attend a weekly life drawing class at uni which lasts 1 hour 30 mins.
I don't have a wacom as of yet (after being screwed over on ebay, this is delayed) but I have a broad range of drawing/painting tools including a nicely growing collection of various makes of graphic markers in most colours.
I DON'T really need:
Software help!! (apart from when I finally receive a wacom, but even then it would just be hints and hacks).
If you want to see how I work and to confirm that I will be dedicated to this program should there be one, please feel free to visit

This is a portfolio site I am setting up at the moment for all of my design, concept, flash and web design work. The link on the homepage at the moment is to my blog which can be found at

Finally I am a pretty anal guy with an eye for detail in both drawing and research/studies so I may be a challenge for a mentor in that I will question theories I am taught, try to push new ways of working. This is because I do self research just about anything that I am learning at any given time. I am deadly serious about making some serious progress here so if anybody fancies very eager understudy I'm your man!

Please also check out my sketchbook thread to get a better feel for how I work as this is only a study, the link is in my signature.
Thanks to all who took the time to read talk soon
