nice updates, the fat guy is awesome
with the last post it seems as if the left side of the face has started melting and goin downwards :p the eye doesnt seems corret
and it seems as if the left mouthcorner goes down 2 cm, cuz of the highlight-line there

but your still kick ass grtz

edit: just noticed, the belly bottom of the fat guy is a bit off, it should be a bit more to the left

You have some fantastic studies in here! I was quite surprised

With the discussion on painting contrast in the last character - I usually end up adding shadow more subtly, using more midtones, since its easy to intensify your shadows later if it needs it. I think you have too much highlight with too much shadow...the lighting may very well be extreme, however all shadows are not likely to be the same value - some soften as they move away from the source casting it. Keep workin it, we shall see what happens

EDIT: oh and be careful of how that close leg is joining the hips, i think its connecting too low and altering the balance of the figure?

Dan Valkar / si, estoy tratando de definir mas con las pinceladas, tratando de ver los bordes y aprender a que se noten bien las formas, gracias por la critica.

Lakka / hey dude, thanks, your doing great too.

Grafguy / HEY, thanks for the critics...yeah, i'll try to fix those things when i come back to it.

crazy3dman / thanks dude, yes, i'll keep on working her.

remmy / hey remmy, colors hate me hehee, it's been difficult, i've doing some studies, but it seem the right thing to do is some studies from life. I'll keep on working and then i'll come back to the mongol guy.

Jakers / yes, you're totally right. But the guy's colors are all about experimentation with colors, layers, adjustments...i'll keep on working on that. Thanks for the useful advices.

Flaskpost / thanks mate, you're doing more than great yourself.

Bushido / hola che, se vienen los pencils en el proximo, hoy ni ganas de escanear. Un abrazo.

Not too much to show, but well, i haven't been doing digitals these days...just pencil stuff that i'll scan later.

Hey Diego, liking a lot the last sketches and that self-portrait came out really good. Indeed, your rendering is improving a lot as seen in the last faces. Can
't really add anything else for now, then just wanting to see MOAR and hopefully some pencils as well. Cheers.

all those greyscale studies look great - so much volume! working in b&w only for a while really seems to pay off! all your surfaces seem a bit similar, perhaps you could start to include more differentiation between matt and glossy materials or even structure/texture?
    keep it up!

Love the newer portrait studies - the self portrait has some good shapes, and the Duran one has an efficient, almost clean feeling to it...I like that we can see the strokes in it. Your faceless, open back creature is actually pretty interesting, but almost funny looking at his stub of a neck.

Did you ever finish the skull sporting barbarian character on the previous page? Do not give up!

Excelente trabajo! Great work man I really enjoyed those studies really nice build up of values. I always get impatient with that and end messing it up. You should study basic color theory some more now since you can get along pretty well with tones. I'm looking forward for more updates.

Good value stuff going on lately, keep practicing, maybe do some still lives with colored objects and see how to translate the color/form relationships with just value. I really like the figure drawing, it has some good personality to the handling. Keep working and learning and thanks for all the feedback. If you're looking for crits on a specific piece or some new work just let me know, I'd be happy to help.

Hi diego, thanks for the critique, good observation.
I like that you're doing both much imaginative work and studies. Promise, they'll help eachother. Waht i'd recommend is more studies from life, for a longer time period, a week or so. Sounds like a long time, but promise, it'll help you'll start to see so many new things in light and form. Which will make your library even bigger when it comes to making things look real.

Just thought i'd give you my thoughts on the way of using straight lines to block in and get the drawing down. Saw you used that way of working on your Bouguereau studie. They're easy to move around to get hte drawing precise. And every big staight line should also represent a big simplyfied plane. And the further you get into the drawing, and you start to lock it down, the more you break the lines up to describe smaller planes. So eventualy you should only the the breaks in planes if you really look for them, and you can find this structure anywhere. You just have to look close enough. A circle on the other hand is very generalised, so is a curved line, they are useful for speed and rythm I agree, I use them alot, but for being specific they're not that good. It's the variation that exsists in nature that gets lost in this way of working. I recommend using both ways to get where you want.

Would be nice to hear what you think of this. Cheers and hope it helped some. Enough rambling for now.

    Hey my friend

Very good work man, you have improved a lot with the digital work, really like the studies.
I think you should tackle some longer studies and finished paintings. Mix up media or subject, it will help to learn new stuff that is universal for other aspects of your art. It's cool that you do imagination stuff, also. Very nice progress

Have a great start into 2009 man
