Shinobi sketchbook. updated 4/14/08 c&c welcome and appreciated

I figured I should probably set up a sketchbook here on CA. If anyone wants to crit any work they are more than welcome to do so.

I'll start with my older work, most of which is about 7 or 8 years old.

I apologize for the picture quality. These were taken with a camera phone.

my newer art, from November of last year to as current as yesterday. I'm finally getting back into art after a 7 or so year hiatus from it.

This first post is hand studies from January. The first three are 30-60 second sketches and the last is a value study.

I liked the cubistic feel of a couple of the older works in the first post. It also looks like you had an affinity for creatures in the early going.

Now that you are doing what look like Bridgman studies you can still remember that angular cubistic look if you ever find yourself wanting to draw humanoid robots. I guess to translate that look over to creatures you would have to hang around Moai's mentoring thread or something.

The still lifes look pretty good. I hope you will keep plugging away at it. You don't have to keep making amateur art your whole life.

I highly advise you purchase a scanner. Photographs in dimly lit settings make it very difficult to read what you've actually drawn. Your recent work suggests that you are moving away from the whole anime scene, which is good if you want to improve. Keep working on Bridgman, purchase a scanner, and you'll be in business.

i actually do have a scanner, but the majority of these works were too large to scan in. I have started doing most of my more recent sketches in my smaller sketchbook so that i will be able to scan them.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad that some of you guys at least took the time to comment. I have been moving away from anime/manga style art more and more recently. So, I doubt there will be too much of that in the sketchbook as I update it.

I decided to add color to the gecko pic, but unfortunately yesterday I was in a motorcycle accident and the wrist on my drawing hand is a little out of commission. Here is what I have so far on it, using prismacolors.

I really liked your fanart stuff but yeah, it didn't have the style that could called yours. Those latests sketches are good, just keep drawing to find your style to draw.

thanks to all those who have replied. Here is some more stuff. I brought home my drawing pad from my art class today so I am posting some stuff out of it. Sorry about the crappiness of the pics, the pad is way too big to scan. the last two are scanned images of the pic before them, two side by side comparisons of a contour line and a value study of the same object. hopefully once my wrist heals I'll be able to get back into sketching again.

2 sketches from today. From Hogarth's dynamic figure drawing.
sorry for the graphite all over the images. The cast really spreads it around.

a couple more sketchbook pages from Hogarth. I started using the red technical drawing leads for a mechanical pencil because they don't smear with the cast on.

update. not much to see, but i'm working at it.

last two are a colored pencil sketch i did from a daily sketch group assignment and a graphite portrait of my mum that I did eventually finish. I need to get a good pic of the finished product though.
