Bath Time, Life Drawings, Subway Sketches... Big Update

    Hi Everyone,
Bobby Chiu, Thierry Lafontaine, Stephen Silver and I will be in San Francisco February 22-24 for the Wondercon. Bobby, Thierry and I will be sitting at tables AA93-95. I'm sharing my table with Bill Presing. Love his work!
    Hope to see you there!

It's been a while since I last posted. Hope some of you still remember me!
    Title: Bath Time (Photoshop)
..Even baby sea dragons need bath toys to keep them occupied so they don't figet too much while they're being washed.

Every week, I've been tagging along with Bobby Chiu to his life drawing classes at Sheridan College, and currently they are focusing on costumes. Here are some from the past few weeks that were really fun to draw. Hope you enjoy!

This was a fun little piece for our friend Steven Gettis who collects original art from a ton of amazing artists. The theme was to interpret our favorite literary figure. Juliet really isn't my favorite literary character, but I had pictured this silly image in my head and just had to draw it. And I also chose to draw her beacuse she is one of the most memorable characters in all of literature.

Here are some of my drawings and sketches for the Border's bookstore winter campaign. The idea is about a sweet relationship between a toy polar bear cub and a fairy named Marshmallow and Holly. It's a story about friendship, inspiration and enchantment.

They needed Holly to be youthful and sweet, and less mature--so they chose the one on the far left. I also drew numerous variations of dresses for her--and the "holly" dress fitted best for their color palette and also matched her name

Originally Marshmallow wasn't supposed to be a toy, but the idea that he magically came to life, just like Pinocchio, made the concept even more holiday-ish.
Bringing Marshmallow to life was a lot of fun-- he is like this really adorable playful puppy, except he's a bear. I love how he just got chubbier by the end.

Here are the final illustrations compiled onto on 2 big jpgs

    Subway Sketches

These sketches were inpired by this lovely restaurant we ate at in San Diego called Ole Madrid. The atmosphere in the place was very relaxing, and the people we ate with made the experience extra special.

I go to a lot of comicons. Many people will dress up for these events. This person wins the weirdest (funniest) costume getup ever! HE was just so odd I HAD to draw him.

This one was inspired by one of my great passions: Samba dancing.

    Excellence.

Marshmallow is awesome, but I had to say that I much prefer the initial pencil and rough colour sketches. There is this charm that I feel is lost in the smooth renderings.

Those subway sketches were the best! Each person had so much personality and that old couple with the red noses... so hilarious and so adorable. I wish I could draw like your style
