    Warcraft

I created this for a mate. this is my first submission and would love some constructive criticism. Many thanks for viewing. I was advised to put my reference. it is heavily based on the warcraft box art. i would also like to thank all the people who comment on my work as they help me to improve. this may be my first submission but i have learnt alot already thank you

I'm not sure its such a bright idea to blatantly copy other peoples work. Generally stuff like this is frowned down upon simply because its not yours, someone put in a lot of time and effort, blizzard paid good cash money for this image if you know what I mean. Pick up a pencil and start drawing your own orcs, dont use someone elses composition and design, do your own thing. Draw thumbnails, get reference and start drawing. Getting caught for plagiarism is not a good idea, I understand that its probably just fanart but be careful. Draw your own thing and post it here and then we can talk about giving some constructive critique.

you might say it's just fan-art, but the truth is it's really too close to this to be taken as that.

and people know this stuff, and like Rook said, it's just generally not a good idea to do this kind of stuff. It'll really hurt any respect you'll get from the guys around here and we might not take you as seriously in the future. Anyhow, before you go off making your own original works, here's a few things I'm gonna toss out there for your future considerations:

    1) Add more definition to your work, it's too blurry.

    2) avoid filters and gadgets of the sort in photoshop or whatever program you use.

There's nothing wrong with doing copies as fanart or studies, just credit the original piece (with a link or attachment, if possible). That way, people who recognize the original won't wonder if you're trying to put something over, and people who don't won't give irrelevant critiques.

actually, he might be referring to burn dodge and smudge tools included.

I heard elsewhere burn and dodge is nice and all but should be avoided because it becomes "bread and butter" tool for people and they end up not knowing the actual values or color they should be putting on in the first place.

The very first post I saw in these forums was (the apple thread) about the smudge and or soft brush being bad for the sole reason its easy to get carried away and smooth everything and you end up with a very blurry or muddy picture. Instead they suggested to use a lower opacity hard brush and color picker and blend stuff that way.
I am just a newb trying my best.
    Shoo! Stop laughing!
