    KMWDavis's Sketchbook

    Hey ya'll watch this!!!

This is going to be my sketchbook. I suppose I'll give a little info about myself . I am 25, a game artist, A comic colorist, and an illustrator. am contently doing random things, and never once have I been set in one area to the point where I can't branch out. I got my real start in the art world by doing anthro art at conventions starting at the tender age of 16. Since then I have grown and grown and grown. I am looking to showcase my work here, get critiques, and in general help myself grow.

That being said... I guess I'll start with my most recent works.

Most of the time when I label something as finished I wont go back in and edit it, However any critiques that are given on them I will take to heart and keep them in mind for future pieces

A good majority of my pieces are digital, though I am no stranger to the traditional arts.

that being said... ON with the show.

First piece I have is one I just finished

A vrykul from WoW and a Protodrake (Yes I know... booooooooooo)

    A commission

    Doodle sketch of a dragon

    Another commission

    Now for a traditional piece

And now for some unfinished work/sketchy work

I am also beginning to dabble in 3d work.. and as soon as I have more then a plant to post I'll post some

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Pinkuh,

You have pretty good anatomy, and your coloring in terms of values seem pretty good. Though working on color theory a bit will push a lot of these in a better direction.

A few things to note. You might want to look on articles about edges. Id also work on stronger lighting. Seems some of your pieces are so rendered to the point, a bit of stiffness occurs.

If you look at your background with the Tiger Girl and the other guy with the wings.
The coloring is pretty but I think you should have worked on the composition for the background a bit more. Seems it got cramped in the canvas. Also, I would have tweaked the values in the back a bit to give more perception of depth. As the trees recede into the background, they'll start going more blue due to atmospheric depth.

http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=125553 has a good start on edges and leads to Elwell's post and discussion further.

Avoid tangents. For example, the furry wizard guy pouring the potion, his cape looks stiff due to sameness of line. I'd look up the notes by Walt Stanchfield and look at Bridgman's drapery (I believe I also gave you a few excerpts from a book about types of drapery)

Your Ops agents firing guns, everything was black. I would have done different kinds of hue based blacks instead, after all a pure black is just nasty to deal with. This is why you probably added rim lighting to all of them, which takes away the appearance of being "covert"

You could for example have used a really really dark green or blue for some of the buildings. Or a warmer black in areas, as long as you remember "what's the story"

Keep posting because your anatomy studies are actually rather nice.
