Nice stuff man! Only thing I could suggest is pushing the tonal patterning on some of the pencil portraits a bit more, love your digital stuff! It feels so painterly and buttery.

great work, your pencils are so nicely nuanced!

the pic with the girl and the lizard, i'd pull the girl further into the foreground to clear up the overlap against the lizard a bit. it's a tad uncomfortable where they touch
also your faces tend to get skewed a bit, maybe have another look at construction or flip your canvas once in a while to get a fresh perspective on it while you work.

Gorrrgeous! I really like your brushwork: so precise, careful, important, virtuoso. A lot of your paintings look beautifully abstract because the parts are simplified. And your faces are so good!

But perhaps some places can be more detailed? Like the girl and dinosaur piece: the feeling is so suggestive, but I think the sky can be more described. I know this one is from a while back, but when looking at it I can see that everything doesn't hold up to the quality of the head.

Basically I'm saying "more specific"! I think the "general" stuff (mood, composition, color, figure proportions/expression) is so top notch, it's just the stuff within the "general" stuff (texture, details, this day's sky's specialness as opposed to yesterday's sky's) that can be worked on more.

Amazing sb, and quite good array of techniques. My advice is just continue doing what you're doing. Maybe work more on your edges in the paintings, sometime things tend to feel to soft all over.

Wow! Thank you all for visiting my sketchbook.
Sunny and Mangix- I study a lot of alla prima painters to get a sense of what information i could omit. Guys like Zorn, Sargent, Mullins, Cicinimo never sacrifice drawing and structure for painterly bravura. One thing to remember is that just because it looks like it was done in one attempt, it doesn't mean it was. Every time I repaint a passage, I learn more about my subject. A better understanding leads to a better explanation. I end up seeing the form in a bigger, more general way and understand the relationships between the value pattern and the planes to, this also allows me to "stack" my strokes strategically.

I've been trying to devote more time to finished work, and experimenting with different media (I've got some gouache stuff that I'm afraid to show) .


Here is a WIP and some poorly composed thoughts.

current shot, it is by no means "pretty" yet, but of course that isn't the point at this stage. Still playing around with varying degrees of information in the figure and tweaking the pose. I'm not very satisfied with the read of the negative shapes. I should probably spend more time outside of the figure, and not compartmentalize my efforts. I should probably flip it more too. Destroyed the hat... lets try this again. Please stand by.
