Ha! Good one!
Look up "Die Brücke" or the Fauves. I think Max Beckman made it to the US before his death, as I recall. Also look up Emile Nolde or Ernst Kirchner, although I don't know if they came to the US. I think Kirchner died before WW2, not sure.
As a side note, many german filmmakers who used an expressionist style escaped to Hollywood. Lang and Murnau amoung others.
