    Layer Icons

Hey guys, quick question. I'm checking out Coro's psd files from the exclusive content thread, and he seemingly likes to adjust the levels/saturation/colour etc. of the image on a few layers. These particular layers have icons that suggest their purpose (check attached), what's the difference between these and regular layers (for lack of a better term)? Or better yet how do you go about creating a new layer just for the adjustment? I dunno, I'm stupid.

    Cheers.

Google or search PS Help for adjustment layers.

Simple, if I understand your request here's my answer:

These are called adjustment layers and therefore they're there just for that.
As you can see in my attachment, to create one, simply click on the icon circled in red and you will then see a menu pop up with various adjustments you can perform, such as Hue/Saturation, Colour Balance etc..

You must know that you may not paint or select these via the tools, they are as if they were locked except that if you double click on the icon beside the layer, you can edit the values again.

Normal layers differ from the adjustment ones in simple ways, the adjustment type gives you de option to adjust anny layers bellow yet you may not paint on them. The normal ones have no special function except painting on them and even changing the modes.

Or, if you double click the second, rightmost box, you can paint on the layer mask and only apply the adjustment layer to part of the image.
