prsnsweeney - Thanks dude! Yeah figure drawing is the shit.

    t i m - Thanks!

Metal Fingers - Thanks man, conte is soo great for figure drawing, I'm trying to learn to use it better. I see guys on here get the most accurate and awesome looking figures in like 2 minutes with conte, and that's what I'm really trying to accomplish.

Chaser226 Yes! Thanks for the crit man, I know exactly what your saying. After going through my sketchbook pages I've observed the same thing, so the next time I break out the conte that's what I'm going for, thanks!

lolbbq Thanks man. By editorial do you mean magazines and such? That'd big sick, and Jon Foster is a huge idol of mine, but my ultimate goal is to get in with a video or movie company!

cgaddict - Thanks very much for the compliments!

    SAmkaa - Thanks dude!

OmertA - Thanks dude glad to have you stopping by!

Abrodos - Thanks man, I totally agree about the digital paintinng. And the armor on his shoulders as well, I wasn't really thinking about functionality . But yeah, I don't think carefully about every stroke. But I'm trying to start to, I think it will end up being a much more succesful way of studying the figure.

    Eiki - Thanks!

    llex_paul - Haha yeah thanks!

Mischeviouslittleelf - Thanks a lot dude glad to see you in here!

    shadow1687 - Thanks!

Wow that was a lot of comments, thanks guys! I'm trying to keep up with weekly updates here, since I'm doing a lot of work in school. Here are some more figures, using ebony pencil, trying to work on linework and accuracy this time. I believe there are some proportional issues with some of these. After this post I gotta figure out what I'm going to be doing for that demo tomorrow

    ModestMouse, thirdeye - Thanks guys!!

So school is going done in about a week, and I'm so excited for summer. but that's still a long way to go right now, I've been getting killed lately with schoolwork, and have been missing quite a few deadlines, and not a whole lot of sleep. So absolutely no time for personal work, and my freelance is beginning to suffer, but I'm doing what I can. In the mean time here is a new illustration for 2d design.

We had to work with a fifth grader from an elementary school, and they essentially acted as our client for this assignment. This image is an interpretation of the greek god Ares. He is being represented here as a soldier in WWII, influencing Einstein to sign the letter to the president about the creation of the atomic bomb. I was on a pretty tight deadline here, so I took photographs for the hands and painted over them. Everything else was painted in photoshop, let me know what you think!

    Your life drawings look great.

With the latest one... I know you had a tight deadline but I think it would look better if you just sketched in the hands really quick, instead of using the photo thing. Right now the head, body and hands really don't match. Even if you're going for a graphic design style, I don't think it works... But I do like what you did with face of Ares. Good expression!

wow massive, massive improvement over the pages! especially apparent in your life drawings, very inspiring in the last update i feel like the hands don't belong to the people, feels a bit disconnected, maybe because of the difference in realism? not really sure.. but i know how deadlines are, so still a good job. looking forward to updates and learning a lot from your figures!

You seem to be finding your painting style. I still love some of that earlier textured stuff as long as you give the eye places to rest. Don't be afraid of pushing contrast to give the eye really hot areas to be drawn to. Those anatomy studies are rocking too. I can already seen growth in this thread! Just keep doing it!

prsnsweeney Thanks dude. The poses are 5 minutes, with the shaded ones being about 20 i think. I usually start by drawing in a shape for the pelvis, then the ribcage, that connecting them with the spine. Then just light organic looking spheres for limbs and main muscle groups. All that in about the first minute, then just put down solid lines, no sketching, just be confident and put the lines where you see them.

    surus Thanks dude!

Zebz Thanks a lot for the comments and crits dude, I will think about that!

AnneBallaran Yeah I've gotten some different feedback about those hands haha, my teacher actually like them, but it seems a few comments on here don't think they fit...ehhh idk. But thank you for posting!

ArteJuan Thanks dude so am I! haha

phizpietl Thanks a lot for your comment man, I love your work.

Quinn Simoes Thanks dude I had so much fun with that one.

Metal Fingers Haha thank you I've been trying to work that a lot recently.

LisandroG Yeah dude I remember you from back in the day, thanks for posting again!

MattGamer Yeah dude thanks, I totally agree with what your saying, that's why you never get bored with figure drawing. I'll stoppin by your sketchbook soon man.

Sycra Thank you! Yes those hands have given me some confusion with my teacher liking them but the artists here not so much. Since it was for a 2d design class, and not so much an illustration class, that might be more of why she liked. I'd never do that in an actual illustration.

    Eddieee Thanks man!

monsi Thanks a lot dude I've also enjoyed your work.

Woooo ok so I'm done with school for the summer, so I'm really going to be putting some time into studying on my own and getting my freelance work done. Hopefully I'll have a lot to post.

Anyway, For my last illustration project I chose to work some environment design type stuff, so here is my project. And a quick photo study.

These new thumbs are really fun, man. I especially like where you're going with the really abstracted green one you must have settled on. I'd maybe introduce more compliments to that green with some subtle reds in there to give it a little something extra. Pushing the lighting to be more dramatic would be great too. Maybe just have the main light source coming from the open area in the back and darken some of the stuff in the foreground to give us a nicer sense of depth. Keep 'em coming!
