new wip, similar style

I was trying to play guitar but I figured I should spend my time on something I'm not completely pathetic at. This actually started off as a picture of a friend, then sleep deprivation took over and it kind of became a picture of me. It's really some kind of bastard offspring of my face and that of my friend. I haven't started coloring it yet, but I'm shaking I'm so tired, so I'm going to sleep. Any comments are appreciated. I intend to try and mix up the line weights a bit more before I throw myself into the colors

i love the colours! - how did you make it look so much like real watercolour and what program did you use?

i really like the style of it, its nice the way you've mixed abstraction with your self portrait.. and the colours are HOT hahah

heh, glad you like it. I did the sketch and line work in Painter X, colored in Photoshop. I laid down the color like thin washes, working on two layers creatively named "warm" and "cold". Flattened it, did some adjustments, then found some free textures online. After color adjustments, I put those on top as overlay layers. If you're working digital, texture libraries are your friend.

Since I had to do this on my macbook, the colors seemed a little too over saturated for my tastes when I looked at it on a man-size monitor, but I'm honestly pretty pleased with this thing.

since you are talking about the process, can you tell how you did the splatter-ish grey color on top of the head ?

The finished piece looks very impressive

You mean above the red patch? I wanted to make the border of the grey coloring more irregular so I did a quick pass using a stone texture brush with the eraser on about 50% opacity.

i really like this piece, its well made and looks great, as others have mentioned, the water colour effect looks great.

just started one of my girlfriend today. The bottom of the hair is going to turn into the pattern on the dress. Don't judge the graphic stuff in the background too harshly just yet, it's all part of the master plan. The eyes are bugging the hell out of me, the right one's too high or something. I figure posting regularly might motivate me to get through this.

The eye on the viewer's right isn't too high in position, but the highest point of it is too high. The shapes of the eyes aren't symmetrical to each other, which kind of throws the image off. If you lowered the lid a little at the widest point of the right eye, they might match up better.
