Whit Brachna aka Mr. Blonde Parts 1 & 2

    http://store.payloadz.com/str-asp-i....nd-detail.html

    and part 2

    http://store.payloadz.com/str-asp-i....nd-detail.html

Not long ago Mr. Blonde was a CA member and SCAD student. Then he went to school at the Concept Art Atelier. Now he works at Massive Black while still attending to his classical foundations at the Atelier. Not bad for someone who can't yet legally drink. He's a friendly guy and a humble teacher; this download demonstrates why he deserves all the success he's got coming his way. Hope you enjoy it! As usual, let us know your thoughts.

*Special thanks to Jonah who joined our team and did the bulk of the editing on this one.

"In this download, concept artist Whit Brachna explains how to break down and create an environment one step at a time. Going from thumbnails to a simple 3D model to a final Photoshop render, Whit constructs a unique and detailed piece with ease and creative ingenuity. As he does so, the viewer will witness a display of foundation skills and Photoshop wizardy combined to create an interior environment suitable for industry-level production. .psd, .mov, and several .jpgs included."

ps. No 3D modeling is covered.

Nice thumbnails. I think my favorite part of the finished piece is actually the lights hanging from the ceiling, just the way they're painted. Thats what I love about Whit's stuff, every little object or inch of the painting is interesting by itself and fun to check out. Probably comes from all that abstract stuff he used to do. I would have made those lights really friggen boring looking.

I've tried painting over a 3D model ummm... once. And was put off by not being able to get rid of the 3D feel. I'll have to give it another go.

For part to, I keep getting a 500 error. It downloads well for a long time, stops, I click resume and it starts from scratch. Lather, rinse, repeat. I'm using Mozilla's Down Them All add on and downloaded the first one with no problems.

EDIT: Errrr... happened twice again. It gets to 98% before completely crapping out on me.
EDIT 2: Finally worked. Sorry, but I don't know what would of caused the problem repeatedly.

You know, I haven't touched Photo Shop since I started watching these videos. I haven't looked at painter either, and have barely touched Z Brush, but this video, for some reason, got me to really start on Sketch Up. How do you get lighting to work in that program anyway?

Its cool watching his process for thumbnails as well. My thumbnails are usually more like elaborate gestures. I'm proud of the movement I can instill in them, but they often lack depth. Composition is hit or miss, but Mr Blonde seems to have the same problem. Anyway, he uses these really simple shapes, that work really well in SketchUp.

It'd be a big bonus if you had included the perspective brush and some of the other custom brushes too. Also, Rembrandt made hundreds of self portraits, so I'm highly curious as to which one he is referring to.

It's already a week later after posting part 2, but you still haven't updated Mr Blonde's section over at the http://dvd.massiveblack.com/downloads.html with a Buy Part Two button. I just purchased all the vids, except that part two... because of the lack of that info/button in that site. If I didn't bother to check this forum, maybe I wouldn't have even known that part 2 was already available. Guess I'll buy it tomorrow (after downloading the rest of the vids), but i think you should take care in putting that little button there, for the sake of those who don't use the forums as much.

eitherway, thanks MB for making these videos available! I'll be looking forward to watching them.
