    Jagers Sketchbook

Hi guys! Thought I get a sketchbook going.

I have only been painting since 2004 but do it every day. I also do some freelance work.
I know I got some issues I would like to improve, especially with drawing and line work.
Will draw more and I promise myself to post new stuff at least …. Weekly! Early New Year resolution

Looking forward to your crits and comments!
Here are some older pictures for starters.
    Thnx!

Here's a slightly strange crit, when you have a huge guy with a large beer gut, extremely ripped and toned arms seem out of place - like you drew 2 different people and combined them at the stomach.

Otherwise good start and post more.

wow, great stuff! especially without any art education and only since 2004!
the only part that u need to work on is compilation, or whatever u call it, the way in which u build the image, and how u place the characters and objects innit. i cant really help u with that, but something doesnt feel right, it can be even better

Thank you SEVANS and ajvenema for the input Definitely agree and will try to work on that! Went to the Revelations workshop in Seattle and had a great time and inspiration boost. Here is some pencil sketches from our hotel.

That wound on the monsters stomach is fantastic, the rendering makes it feel slimy and real - nicely done.

Who's the Elvis looking guy? It has great skin tones.
    Good Updates.

hey dude! your sketches look good.. specially the last couple and your actual chow sketch looks killer also.. it has this loose style that is awesome!

ive got some questions if you dont mind.. do you use photoshop? and what kind of brushes do you use? i mean, do you make your own brushes? is there a place where i can get these brushes?
    thanks!

Hey man thanks a lot, yes i use Photoshop and some custom brushes. There is tons of amazing PS brushes circling the web.
I use Barontieris brushes, awesome artist. just google barontieri brushes and i´m sure you will find his brushset.

I think its best though to find a few favorite brushes you like and really learn to use them in your own way.
For most of the work i use just a regular brush with pressure set to opacity.
I’m pretty new to this approach with shapes and custom brushes, i usually draw with contour lines.
But this technique definitely has awesome potential. Especially when you have an open brief,
cause the picture tends to get a life of its own and you don’t really know where it will take you
lots of happy accidents. And you make stuff you never would have done using lines.

I like to start working zoomed way out and just make some scribbles until i see some interesting shapes.
Then you can bring them forward.
Paying more attention to the overall relationship between darks, lights and mid tone then details. Also working with contrast to make a more interesting image.
You can contrast everything, dark - light, soft-hard edges, loose-details . And also not overworking the image. good luck !
