Red face Iridyse's Uglies and Pretties! (Nudity) Update- May 04

Posting here makes me so nervous! But I've been a lurker here for so long and I thought it was time to post some of my own stuff in here. Atleast it will make me draw more. I think.

Comments, crits, chocolates, bricks- all are most appreciated
    Thanks!

I absolutely adore that mantis head.. the colours and wetness and general texture are just gorgeous. Anatomy in general is fab, especially on converting it into those monstrous forms. Only thing I could think to crit was the mouth on the head, looked as if it were ever so slightly off centre compared to the nose, and the way it lines up under the eyes. But thats only if I really had to nitpick. Other than that, this is truly stellar stuff.

Why the hell would posting here make you feel nervous!!? You got some good stuff from the looks of these, good imagination which is the key around here. You can paint a pretty picture but if there no real story or imagination about it will appear just as that, a pretty picture. So yeah, your doing great already! Just keep updating! Cheers!

Wow! Thanks for all the kind words, guys!

    gluck: Thank you very much!

Ex Nihilo: I'll post more ugly thingys soon, hehe. Thanks!

ghoulio: Thank you! I'll try to post more often!

Dose206: I'm super encouraged by all the responses now, I think I'll be updating every 2 hrs or so, hahaha Thanks!

terrafovea:Thank you very much! I've been working towards adding texture to my paintings, I hate the plasticy airbrushing/super blendingness. In fact, I think I spend more time making brushes than I do painting (they call me a brushfactory at work, haha).

Soul Karl: Thank you very much!

redSpade:Hi! I tend to switch a lot between blending modes when I paint. I think getting a good understanding of how they work helps to add subtle( and strong) texture into your work. Thanks!

Draniel: Thanks a lot! I get that sometimes, it's a huge compliment. Her paintings are so beautiful, it's a pity she hasn't posted anything for a while.

donalfall:I haven't sketched with pencil for so long now, slowly getting used to it again. I hope to colour those pencil sketches soon Thanks!

    spazazo:Thank you!

Ancestors: Thank you so much. I think I need to start loosening up a bit when I paint. And do more environments and stuff. So much to do, so little time.

    Charles Ratteray: Thanks!!

cIIIz: Aw shucks, thank you so much!

zephyri: Thank you so much! I was so so impressed with your sketchbook, I'm so glad you popped in here. You're absolutely right on the mouth, I saw it when I flipped the image. I'm working on it a little to make it look better.

    Marjolein: Thank you so much!

Saturns Gate: Heh, it's just that there are all these amazing sketchbooks in this forum...But hey, that's what makes you work harder huh? Thanks a lot!

    andyhunt: Thank you!

I haven't been painting much, work has kept me busy. I keep thinking I'll just forget to paint one day, if I don't practice enough. So when I'm not feeling particularly creative or when I think I just need to push myself in capturing detail and observing better, I usually pick a reference and try to match it as closely as possible.
So anyway, we had fur-grooming training at work, and I was generally doing pretty badly. So then I just had to pick up something with fur/hair to prove to myself that atleast I can still paint it, haha. I'm silly that way. I came across this BEAUTIFUL image in photo.net by a very very talented photographer called Dirk Vermeirre. I haven't come anywhere close in matching the softness of his features (and the eyes are oh-so-off!) but in some way I like how the painting has a character of its own ( he's got serial killer eyes, eh?)
    Reference used with permission

An update on the green head, I need to add hands containing the red glowyness that's causing the strong bounce on her chin. And something on the head...

And a crop from a Nightmare Challenge at CGArena that I never finished. Bleh. I need to though, too many quarter-done ideas.

(Ok, so how do I inline the images I have attached? Or is that not possible?)

I did another sketch of the birdman, in action! I need to look for a scanner now

    Thanks for looking!

These are all great Can't imagine why you would be shy to post any of this.

The clown and the frog-sorta-thing in your first post are my favourite, but the rest is just as top notch. Love the texture on the face of the old man.

Red face Birdman and spooky faces SPAM!

yoitisi: Thank you very much! I am happy with the froggie too, I hope to colour him someday.

    Vulgar`: Wow, scary visual Thanks!

As promised, more doodles! The birman head and figure are recent. I'm trying to draw different versions of this guy so I can pick which I like( as opposed to my usual workflow of just letting the painting develop as I go) I wnat to give more thought to the composition, environment in this painting, and possibly some nice dynamic movement too. I wonder if I can pull it off, hehehe.

A doll-portrait I did for a friend of mine. I wonder why it scares some people, she's supposed to be cute!

The next one is from CGTalk's daily sketch thingy, the topic was Self Portrait as a Vampire.I think I went on a vampire painting mode after that, painted only vampires for a bit, haha.

Then a little baby vamp doodle , I have that image as a bookmark

    Thanks for looking!

like i said before, amazing. those highlights and details in your pieces blow me of my feet! that painting you've done from that photo is really realistic. When i first read your post i thought THAT was the photo!

and dont get me wrong, but dolls are just scary =P However, you paint them gorgeous!

Do you work in the art-industry? oh, and do you have some tutorials laying around, i'd love to get to your level!
