Just a quick one today. For the past couple days I really haven't felt like drawing, just haven't been able to get into it. A shame since I want to start a week-long piece of painting from life sometime as practice. It happens.

This was fun though, sort of broke the drawing-drought for a little. Raz from Psychonauts.

I like the idea, and the ribcage looks great, but I think the middle piece of the scope looks flat. It might be that the highlight on the bottom is too bright or too thick.

Thanks very much eminkey2003! I'll fix that in the next version.

It's 3:30am here, got work at 8am, so here's my final update tonight, will finish tomorrow after work!

The barrel might look odd, it's because I'm toying with a couple shading techniques, etc.

Here's something I did for work, slightly larger version than on the site.

It was to accompany an article about Fathers Day. (we've only just had Fathers Day here).

Big dump ahead... You're probably going to hate me for this.

Portfolio stuff, the speedpaintings I've submitted before but... yeah. I'm using this to apply for uni here, Visual Communications Design (Digital Media).

Oh man, that sniper rifle is absolutely bad ass. I can't believe I've never seen that done before. Awesome.

Have you ever seen the cartoon/comic Invader Zim?

Updated, This is about the best i can do without butchering the paper too much (starting to get an incredibly frayed surface >_<).

I'm still quite happy with the result, but a loooooot of work to do.

I've been drawing, but just a little update today:

I bought the new edition of Betty Edwards' "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", and after reading the introductory pages (while hearing positive comments on the book from a few people), was very excited to try this first test out during lunch break.

Pic shows a test attempting to cause conflict between the left (verbal) and right (visual) sides of the brain, and noticing the "switch" between the two. Typed in my chickenscratch handwriting so that you guys can read it and follow my process of the pic, (particularly those familiar with the exercise) and give feedback please!

I started at the top left, worked downwards, drew the top horizontal line towards the right, worked top downwards on the right, then finished the bottom horizontal line.

Any feedback or advice appreciated, moving on to the next exercise tonight after practicing this one a few more times.

Quotations " show what I was thinking while drawing.

I've just been reading that book recently too. I think I have a really old edition, though -- do you happen to know whether there's better/more content in the new version? (Enough to warrant buying a new copy?)

Picture looks good. Heh, I notice looking at it carefully that I have to switch to "right brain mode" in order to find errors. One difference I can see is that right nose is flatter. The left chin looks rounder, but that might be due to cleaner lineart. The area around the philtrum/septum is curved upwards more, though again depends how you interpret the lineart.

The version I have was written in 1999, apparently compared to the last book, this one better describes "perception of relationships" and expands on "perception of lights and shadows". I've only just started reading it last night, and haven't looked up the previous versions, but those two aspects are in the forewords from the author. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Also thank you very much for the feedback on the vase & faces.
