    Do you like your art?

Just thought it would be interesting to see how people feel about their own artwork...

Do you like your own artwork? When you finish a drawing/painting/sculpture/etc. do you think to yourself "wow, that sure looks good!" or is it more often "Yikes, that sure looks like crap!"

    Just curious...

I have severe arthritis, so drawing is incredibly painful for me.

I love them in my head, but I just cannot put them to paper. I should add on an art major, just so I am forced to overcome this hurdle.

I hate them all. I can always spot something I would have changed, even when viewing pieces years later. I'm just too damn lazy to get back in there and fix something once I've already put it down.

When I paint at work I usually like the image that I've painted for a while- then I'll think what I could have done better and can't wait to start on the next one. So yeah I guess I like what I've done but for a real short while.

ditto what Anthriel said - often with my pencils it's only a matter of a day or two before I completely dislike it.

I kinda hate my stuff most of the time since it frustrates me it never comes out like I want it to. However, sometimes I look back on stuff I made a long time ago and go "damn! I could never do that now" (which is untrue of course, but still)

It depends on what you define "like" as. There is a difference between being happy and being content.

So I'd say, overall you should like your work, even if you screw up (because that is a result, and knowing your problems is a reason to be happy, because you know what to fix), and be proud of it. Otherwise why bother making it? But with that said, by no means you should be content with where you are and what you do, because there is always always something to improve.

Well that's what I think anyway. I tend to come off negative about my work, though I think below I'm happy and like it, since it's all part of our journey in art to suck less each day.

(sorry I kinda went off topic here XD haha)

it really depends on the drawing and my mood...

If the lines just flow , the idea is good and i am in a good and UNFORCED mood , I tend to really like my art to the beginn with. I still see the mishaps in it but i like the process so much that it affects the result.

If it is all the contrary i tend to really hate my art.

Most of the time it is a mixture of both extremes...

If I was my 12 year old self again, I would be amazed!

But generally, yes, I am never satisfied with my art.

There's about three seconds after finishing a good part on a painting, where I feel it, but then it's back to dissatisfaction. This is part of the survival instinct of an artist, and nothing abnormal.

I generally call a piece of art finished when I can't stand to look at it any more. Once in a very great while, I produce something that surprises me, but that's rare and seemingly random. Then, of course, when I get all excited and want to show it to my friends, they don't see a difference from the normal crap I produce. Oh well, back to arting.

More often than not I make things that I know can be improved upon, sometimes I flaat out hate them, but sometimes I make things that I'm genuinely proud of.

    So mostly hate, sometimes like.

I guess I feel like most people here. While I'm working on something I like it and I'm enthusiastic about it and then I look at it the next day and I'm much like, yeah, now what did I think was so special about that.
When I feel like shit about what I do, it normally looks like that too!!
That's like proof that I suck.
I pretty regularly go through my old sketchbooks and figure that I'm not good but better already.

I generally like them momentarily - sort of in the vein of ... 'oh managed that not half badly today' or 'okay expressions are improving a tad compared the absolute dross I drew yesterday'. But I've got a short attention span and so I'm off to draw the next thing before I get any chance to rest on any perceived laurels. I think for me the best thing is having someone with more experience/talent than myself go over my drawings with a red pencil and correct whatever is not working. A great way to learn.

As for sitting there drooling over my own drawings... lol. Not likely.
That'd be like people who treat sketch book like it's some sort of fine art. Just silly and a real impediment to improving.

I once heard the late great Iwao_Takamoto jokingly say something that has stuck in my head ever since... something to the effect of:
'You've got thousands of bad drawings in you... you better start getting them out now so you can get to the good ones'

I think I'm pretty realistic about where I am in terms of my skill. I know that I'm not great but I realize that I'm not bad either. So its a tough call for me to say.

The art pieces of mine that I like are not necessarily great art but are landmarks as to where my skills improve.

Those two options aren't really touching this topic.
I don't think everybody hates every single piece of art they produce, and if they did, well then maybe they should be asking themselves why they're doing art.

I definitely do like some of my art, and just because I can see mistakes doesn't mean I have to hate it.
Make it enjoyable for yourself, because it's the reason why you're doing it.

I only try to make things I'd like. sometimes I fail, sometimes I succeed. I wouldn't make something I wouldn't like...but the better I do with solving the problem, the more I like it.

    does that make sense?

I think options in the poll simplify it too much.

My art could always look better but that doesn't mean I don't like it. Beacause of this whole enthusiasm I have some drive to push it further. Otherwise I wouldn't draw at all.

For the most part, lately I haven't been liking my work. There are things about it, like how boring it is, that I want to fix up. Since I feel like quitting more often than I used to, that only makes me feel worse. That being said, I will like it one day. I just need time and patience...and LOVE...somehow, to really appreciate what I'm doing and how well I'm doing it.

i love my artwork no matter how much mistakes i find in it. As long i can learn to correct my mistakes, i am happy to see my skill evolve from previous art to my new one and the same with coloring it too. I'm all for mastering any skills, any mistakes in what i do is another reason for me to get better at it.
