Wow, Chaos, what a complicated Demoness you have chosen, so many different versions from so many different cultures, it's hard to understand how she was really, although her house is supposed to be in a tree in the middle of a dragon nest surrounded by the tree's branches, gates to death, entrance to the Sheol, and a direct access to hell.

Now, this is her house, are we supossed to design a Cathedral for her?

Also, per deffinition, Cathedral is supposed to be Christian (Roman Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox and some Lutheran), not for the Dark demon masses, shouldn't the name of the building be a darker one?

Agree, the term "cathedral" can refer as an adjective to the building itself. Besides, isn't that what the Lilith myth is representative of, the corruption of religion, etc.? Not that I'm a fan of such things, I got enough of Lilith from the wankers in high school who thought it'd be edgy and cool to believe in something "dark"... boo...

PS. robmorfin, what'd you have in mind? Me, I'm thinking "Lilith's Bordello". Like that movie. Except in the middle of some desert wasteland, like the Bunny Ranch, but... you know... from hell.

Depends on which way you want to go with it. Supposedly "first", supposedly "evil", and so on and so forth. Semantics are fun.

    "Wiki" it... good reading...

Lilith has a very open interpretation i think, depending on the different mythos. I was thinking of something cthulu-ish, maybe

this Boris Vallejo painting is probably my fav Lilith image by far:

I was thinking of the interior of a Table Dance stage church like, huge ceiling 8 stories tall with 360 view to the top with Lilith performing at 3/4 of the height, other performers pointing at her all over this ellongated interior dome, fire coming downwards from a hole in the top of the dome, mesopotamian warriors staring and trying to reach to her with their hands (from the ground floor), one of the warriors shooting an arrow with his crossbow towards her, the arrow being half the way there.

Wish i had time, good luck to you all.

SO you got your ziggurat the old school temple thingies, a few lamassu, representing the old cradle o civilization stories. You got children throwing rock at eachother, representing the cradle robbing in the middle gorund, a stormy background and the three statues of angels broken at the front gate. Mind you the lamassu have lion heads and owl bodies and bad bad breath.

I think I might actually try to do a modified christian cathedral, since Lilith can be tied to alternative versions of bibilical stories.

Thinking dark and beautiful temple of temptation... we'll see how this turns out.

WIP, values blocked in. Used photo ref - didn't want to mess with perspective lines for this one.

note: remember this is an environment.. not a scene
the cathedral is the main character. not the people or the event

but It is a "hot babe topic" in EOW... giggle

There are two seperate creation myths in Hebrew mythology (1st testament) when the people came together as an agricultural society, leaving the nomadic ways, they brought two oral traditions concerning creation and both were incorparated into the written tradition. The character of Lilith was then later borrowed from ancient Roman and Sumerian mythologies in an attempt to explain the two wives of Adam. Her character is the Snake, the Succubus, the temptation of weak men and the stealer/killer of babies.
Sorry about the history lesson but I just got into an argument with my feminist friend who adores LilithFair and claims that Lilith was the first wife of Adam, created in equality, who rejects Adam for independence...AKA the first feminist. And while I support women in all aspects of life this view on an ancient character, created in a time when equal rights were as distant as the internet, is childish and short sighted. So many great women celebrating independence at a festival dedicated to a demon, killer of babies, succubus or whatever facet she takes in the many mythologies....
Wow. I'm sorry for all that but I feel much better. GREAT TOPIC. Mine will have boobs.

preliminary sketch, Lilith in the middle, the 4 kids hanging and the men on the side walls are suppossed to be sculptures as part of the building, attached to it, I wanted them to tell a little bit of the story, is this valid?, if not, I will just add owls, snakes or other stuff...

The apples are tempting, but don't be lured into Lilith's house of worship.

I may have strayed a bit from all the folklore, but when I think "child-eating female demon" I get something kind of like this

Still needs some composition adjustment, but here's something to go on for now.

Awesome topic! Cant wait to see the different ways people take this one.

Quick update before I call it a night. Still trying to fix the composition...

Re-did mine with some old-school inspiration from Giger.

Every desire may be had behind the ancient and grotesque entrance to Lilith's temple.
