There's plenty of Irony in photography!

Hello everyone, a while back I joined CA, but I got extremely frustrated with how my drawings were going, and I didn't really do much here on the forum, so left. In the time that I was gone, I realized how much more I enjoyed photography over drawing. SO: since this is such a nice community, I've come back, and this time I bring pichr's!
I'm only 17, and I really don't know anything about photography, but I'd like to learn. All critique is welcome, so let me know what you think. All of my pictures are taken with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01K (6 MP). It's not professional quality or anything, but I love it to death. The images have been greatly reduced in size. Here's a little bit of what I have amongst my wares:

Hmm.. read up some photography rules first. They serve as good guide lines to starting photography. Just Google up the words: "photography" and "composition" for starters. There should be a few good tuts under that.

I don't know about your camera model... can you adjust aperture and focus yourself? Or is it all automatic idiot-proof compact madness?

I agree. To add, I would say that you should play around with cropping as well.

Thanks for the advice. It'll be tough isolating my subject, though. There always seems to be clutter and mess crowding everything. My camera is pretty inexpensive, so unfortunately it's just an automatic focus deal. It comes with quite a few automatic settings, but I can also customize the different modes and change the settings easily. For what it is, it's a great camera, just not comparable to anything for professional use... But it's pocket-size

I don't have the money to invest in a better camera right now, maybe I can try and sneak it into my college expenses!

Hi all, just wanted to add a few things that I was playing around with. I don't really like them that much, but I'd like to hear what you have to say about them. Lately, it hasn't been going too great, I haven't had time to shoot anything decent. School seems to be constipating my spare time, but winter break is coming up, so expect some bigger updates then. I've been trying to use Mr. Mu's advice, but I haven't come up with anything yet. I will soon, honest!

I really screwed up the focus on this one...

Here I tried to emphasize the size and delicacy of the dragonfly, and was just fooling around with different cropping ideas. The focus was intentional, to kind of get that "aura" look.

Same picture, except B&W with more detail left in.

I wasn't too sure how to crop this one. Originally it was larger, with the rest of the church. Still, I wanted to get the focus of the image on the priest and the man.

Basically an image is worth 1000 words, so i'll keep it short. Some of them have good graphical composition. Start playing with them. Maybe like i did ? Alt + i + p , Alt + i + e + 1 in photoshop .

Nothing Fancy, just crop and flip.

Here's some stuff I took the other day, the jeans pictures were kind of fun, and the sunsets are from later that day when I was waiting for my ride outside of school. I tried playing around a lot with tint and exposure in these, just for the hell of it.

Adjusted the tint, but there was a piece of dust on the lens, hence that annoying blotch.
