    Hello, New member from France

    Hi all,

I am a new member. My name is cedric, from Paris, France. A bit lost on this huge forum :-) Mentoring section seemed appropriate for a first post...
I just started oil painting two weeks ago (never painted before). My favorite subject is Fantastic / Fantasy and my inspiration comes from TSR artists (Larry Elmore, Keith Parkinson, Jeff Easley...) and others such as Frazetta (who else ?) Giancola...
I am no professional, just an amateur painting for his own pleasure.

I have only painted two works so far which you can see on my blog :

Advices and hints / tips welcome. I look forward to exchanging with cool people :-)

    Thanks

    Ced

What other education or training do you have then? To say that you've only been painting for two weeks, but be able to produce a solid painting like the portrait you have posted here is a bit much to swallow.

also, I think you're posting in the wrong forum area, this area is only for those who have mentors, or are looking to acquire one. If you want to get mentored, there's a lovely sign up sheet stickied to the top of the page.

Uh... I'm not sure to understand. My education is marketing and Business administration. I have strictly no artistic background :-) The only painting I've done before those on my blog was done in High school 17 yrs ago in acrylics :-) Truly. Your post lets me think my works are encouraging :-)

I don't think my two paintings are exceptional though even for a beginner (don't misunderstand me, I am proud of them) as they are mere reproductions of existing stuff (some Larry Elmore sketch for the elf Amazon, hand drawn and some Michael Douglas Photo, transferred on canvas with tracing paper). As far as I have some visual support it's ok, but drawing what I have in mind is what I am looking for. Drawing from nothing is quite another challenge... !!!
If a moderator is around, feel free to move this post in the appropriate section.
About getting mentored, I don't know yet. I guess I'll start with posting my next WIP in the appropriate section.

    Thanks for your post !

For sure, there are a lot of different places here to post your work and get the help you're asking for, it's a truly great place to learn. You may try to sketches/wips section next time you post an image, or the critique center if you're looking to just put finishing touches on a piece.

Also, instead of linking to images just use the conceptart.org built in attachment manager, it's just much easier for people to look at your work posted right here in the thread than to go to other websites to look at it.

In the Lounge section there's a stickied thread that details etiquette, helpful hints, and other things for posting around the forums here.

    good luck!
