Hey Brendan, cool to see another South African on CA!
Love the sketchbook - speedpaints, studies and photos are all looking awesome. I also like your id book project. Keep posting!

bunny: Nomi! Cool to see you on these boards again! Thanks for the kind words girl, much appreciated. Use to enjoy photography until I was sort of pressured into it when I started out with college - became unfun. Slowly getting back into it again. Cheers for stopping round!
Call0ps: Many thanks! Didn't get exhibition photos unfortuantely, might wind up showing a few of my friends' photos as soon as I get them.
Dan: Merci mille fois, monsieur!
marc_redd: Muchos gracias sir, much appreciated!
sjuskadur: Many thanks and much more on the way.
hamtaro69: thanks, glad you like the colours!
Curse: Awesome, which part of SA you from? Glad you like what you see.

Right so I'm done with the exhibition work and everything, and onto the first part of my third (and perhaps final) year at college. Thought I might update with some exhibition stuff. Not everything is here, since one of the pieces is in fact based off of my LMS entry.
Also this sb *might* turn into a sort of collaborative thing soon, depending on how things go. But more on that later, onto pictures:
This one got left out - too poor - but thought I'd post it anyway.

My sketchbook: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...106521&page=11
The textures in these are great ! Did you do them yourself or something ?
What classes are you taking for college ?
daaamn, love it dude! your ideas and textures are getting pushed further and further forward...I'm glad I can witness your development![]()
Can't wait to see your LMS man, I'm sure its great! Hope I'll be able to catch ya online someday![]()
Love this stuff. So different from most. The use o textures and colores are delish. Very much looking forward to seeing more of yours.
Keep doing and posting.
Please take the time to give me some constructive criticism in my Sketchbook
i really really like the second picture in your last update.
all your things have a great sense of mood in them, but this one kinda
talks to the romantic in me i guess =)
i could see this kinda stuff in combination with story's about dreams or with poems.
Loving the way you make digital media look traditional (wait, it is digital right?)
ajvenema: Many thanks, will do!
Daniel: Hey bro, muchos thanks! The textures are a mixture of brushes and photos of various textures. Mostly my own stuff, but I occasionally pop in the occasional free online texture. My classes are pretty cool - 1 theory subject (Visual Culture), Design, Animation and 2 Illustration subjects (one acting as a major). And you, how your course going my friend?
paperX: Hey dude, you are way too kind. Awesome to hear you like what you're seeing. LMS right here if you haven't seen it before. As for beeing online, I'm afraid that would be less likely from now on, since I'm college is getting into full swing now
. Will drop you some lines when I have time dude.
Hilbruks: It's really cool to hear that this stuff stands out some, since I've been working for some time on getting something original going and stop being a ripoff. Of course I'm still mostly a hack, but it sound like I'm making progress.
andreas: Haha, well it definitely is the romantic in me that made that. I find your comment of stories or poems interesting in that I'm continually trying to push the narrative qualities of these things. Seeing that someone's mentioning a literary aspect is really cool, many thanks.
Wisteria: Thanks! It is in fact a combination of both - I make extensive use of scanned images and textures and photographs to generate the traditional quality.
Curse: I'm studying at The Open Window. I'm still fairly unsure about my career afterward specifically - I would probably wind up doing freelance illustration or something. If you invest time and effort, going unemployed isn't an issue. Staying in this country might be, though it is doable. If you have a good internet connection, then you'd be able to work for clients around the world from your home. Hope that answers your question.

More stuffies soon, in the meantime - my LMS entry and its underdeveloped exhibition twin:
c+c appreciated as always!

I'll try and come up with something constructive to say, but for now all i can say is your work is absolutely beautiful in my eyes. I love the textures and compositions and everything.
The painterly/ illustration mix in the latest one is perfect.
"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed

Oh ok, thanks for the answer.I've spoken to someone before who studied at The Open Window, seems like quite a cool place.
The LMS entry looks awesome - love the contrast between the fully rendered part and the washed-looking 2d stuff. I think you pulled it off well, and the image is really interesting to look at!
Almighty Chris: Many thanks mate, I'll be waiting for the crit!Appreciate the kind words.
Curse: Thanks buddy, appreciate the kind words. Open Window is a really great place (provided you're willing to cut that sociallifeslice out of the pie and feed it to the dogs), great lecturer and a wonderful vibe. I get inspired every day just by talking to people or lecturers. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend it.

great progression, seems like your really finding your own uinque style!
I like the pictures like this one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...6&d=1201471850
where you still paint areas and use those textures as well, the more textured pieces feel like they could be painted more.
this is classy http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...5&d=1201471809
great composition amigo!
yeah! these last two are really looking interesting, I love the texture
Wow your visual voice is so strong! I absolutly adore your imagery. You've got such inventive use of shapes! Love everything here. Everything tells a story, has a mood and is full of life. Its great!

REALLY good LSM entry RESPECT!
i like the smell of the new sketchbook. way to go. first thing that really strikes me is the colour studies on page one. i have to say it comes out as a fresh breath of air. it made me realise that although i like your colour choices in a lot of your work, in general they are very similar..
if i were you i would do way way more of those colour variations. seems a bit like your pinning yourself down with them (again i do like them etc etc blabla haha, you down with crits right?) if it's just something you need to get out of your system then forget i said anything.
cool to see you keep banging on.

having a second look i have to say this is one piece were you make the colours really work for me. you got just that little bit of extra bite where you need it, strengthening the focal points and keeping my eye in there. the composition and individual shapes work really well for me and your colouring enhanced it. i really like the way it's painted (not too much of that texture but just enough). very very nice. ..

Its all good monsieur !
The last bunch is nice man, good colors and interest.
Everything here is going well, architecture is boring but the teacher promised me some good assignments... hehe
How much time do you have left at your school ?
...and these are sketches?
I love the textures and the saturation you use in particular, they really build atmosphere.
hey man i really loved your lms entry, seriously awesome idea and execution, hope you make it to round 2the only nit pick complaint i would probably have about it that the way you switched from fully render to 2d-ish around the girl's bow area, that was the only area that the transition that felt awkward to me, i felt that it would work better if the whole bow was in either 2d or fully render style....but again like i said its a nit pick crit really, honestly no real complaints from me here
keep it up man
its kinda like sitting here with a huge boner.
My phrase you can't touch it!
Love it, need it. Your colours are becoming much richer, keep it up bro![]()
