A few recent works - updated Nov. 16th

    Hello everyone!
I haven't posted here for quite a while, feels good to be back.
Here are a number of recent paintings.

The first one of them is a study of Boecklins "Toteninsel" ("Island of the Dead") and so essentially not my own creation.

(here I used heavy reference for the trees in the BG, don't want to take full credit for those)

I hope you like them. Comments and suggestions very much appreciated!
    Ben

Hey man, I like the environments. The legs on the girl in the snow though are a bit too small though. Have a good one.

Very well done! The dark trees in the first one bother me though.

Thanks people! Glad to get some input.
I know I still have a long way to go, and sometimes I find it hard to see what I could improve- working longer on a piece at some point never seems to yield any improvement.

    Anyway, something new:

Maybe working a little longer before you get started on a piece might help. You've got a great, painterly style, a real feel for enviroment, lighting and mood, but your anatomy could still use some work. You seem to be doing very well working from reference, but there are some proportion problems. In the last painting (which has a great overall look, by the way) the man with the book has a big head, but very small arms and body.

Spending longer on your underdrawing will save you a lot of heartache later, allowing you to concentrate on modeling form and not worrying about proportion or anatomy.
