Last Man Standing 3: Entry over. Reserves open.

Finally.

It's here again, ladies and gentlemen... sorry for the hold up, but I've been cooking up some new surprises for this year's art-orgy-extravaganza. For those of you who had not witnessed the mayhem that is Last Man Standing in either of its two previous incarnations, here's a quick rundown of the event.

LMS3 brings with it this cycle a massive field of 320 contenders over 4 rounds, pitted against each other in a randomly matched bracketed tournament. Pros and novices alike are invited to participate, but keep in mind you'll be going up against some of the best and brightest in the industry. Bring anything but your best and I guaranteed you'll be ridden like a dirty alpaca all over the place.

Each round you'll be paired up by my Super Deluxe Excel Randomizer with no less than 3 other contenders per round.

The Rundown

Round I: 320 contenders paired in groups of 4 / 80 advance
Round II: 80 contenders paired in groups of 4 / 20 advance
Round III: 20 contenders paired in groups of 4 / 5 advance
Round IV: 5 men enter, one man leaves...

Everyone will be given approximately 4 weeks to complete their piece, give or take a week depending on the time of year. We have the holidays coming up soon, and we'll have a bit more time to fit that into our busy schedules.

Entries for each round will be judged by a hand-picked jury of talented professionals, with multiple judges assigned to each match in every round choosing a winner based on concept, technical execution and overall impact. All judging decisions are final, so don't even think about whining if you're piece wasn't picked (boo hoo!).

Only sign up if you actually plan on submitting a piece. I've been lenient about puss outs in the past, but this year if you do not have an EXTREMELY valid reason for your failure to submit I'm putting you on the blacklist for the next season. Puss out because of laziness, no Last Man 4 for you.

This time around we will have some prizes to hand out in the form a free Conceptart.org workshop pass and various goodies and DVDs (thanks to Jason Manley and crew, of course), as well as a possibility of more suprises down the line. Last Man Standing is ultimately about the competition itself, however.

Above all else, just have a good time eh? It's about the process, it's about a bunch of art nerds like ourselves doing what we love most and having a damn good time doing it with some competition.

Sign-ups officially begin Monday November 12th, 2007 and will last until we get our field of 320 entrants registered and paired up. There will be a bit of advance warning as to when Round One will start, so check the forums often for updates. Sign up at the following URL:

EDIT: After the 320 limit is reached you will be informed that you are on the waiting list. The waiting list is not a guaranteed entry, but if a spot needs to be filled I will pick from the wait list in the order that you've signed up. It is your prerogative if you'd like to create your entry along with the rest of us in case you do get drafted. In the past, I have called upon the reserves quite a bit, so you never know.



LastManArt.com: The Site

Last Man Standing returns not only with the intent to put on the absolute largest event of it's kind to date, but with the brand spankin' new companion site LastManArt.com. The site will grow from here on out with features relating directly to the competition and it's participants, adding a new dimension to the event as a whole. Features to look forward to:

Interviews with Last Man Standing artists and judges. I've already stocked the site with interviews with Nic Klein, Dan Dos Santos, and Shelly Wan with plenty more on the way. Look forward to this section growing fast.

Tutorials featured that are submitted by none other than the participants themselves, created to accompany their pieces will have their own special place on the site. Show the world why you're entry was so damn good and take some process shots along the way. If you'd like to be featured on the site, write up a short (or long, who the fuck cares as long as it's good) step-by-step process and submit it all to [email protected] .

A goddamn cornucopia of features will end up filling the rest of the site, with round by round coverage being archived and other bits and pieces I just haven't gotten around to including yet. The site is meant as a companion to all of the action going down on the Conceptart.org forums, but will be updated often enough to warrant you coming back often for your filthy Last Man fix. You know you want it!
