Where can I get an r4/m3 card? I've called a few video game stores in chinatown here in nyc, but they don't carry any flash carts.

Hey Blacksunne, of what I heard in this thread is that the r4/m3 card is not something you can buy on stores because of some of its features. But you can find it easily online in places like Amazon. Hope this helps.

It does. Thanks Maestro.
woo got my new DS up and running!
lets get a DS paint thread goinggg
yes, lets.![]()
I am all for it. Also, if you guys have notice, there is a playback feature that plays all the strokes you make in a fast way. Basically is like a painting video stored in *.drw file. Would be nice to share some of those down the road![]()

Just got my Ds up and running Colors yesterday. So psyched!
I would loove to have a spot to not only show our Colors works, but swap ideas, techniques, work arounds, etc!!

what section do you guys want to have the DS thread going? or should we just turn this thread into the official thread?

i vote on either moving this thread to FF or sketches. in FF, it might get flamed because things aren't finished. however, no one really looks at the sketches section as much as sketchbooks, FF or lounge.
edit: this thread is already pretty popular. we can turn it into the official thread. and if any questions pop up, we can answer them.

I just got all my hardware and software together and have painted a few pieces, but every time I close the DS, turn it off, or take out the R4, I'm unable to run Colors without completely removing it from the card and reinstalling it. I'm sure I need to install a patch, and they're available, but the instructions on actually installing it are woefully inadequate for the average artist (myself) to work by. I tried, got confused, cried for a little while, and popped in Puzzle Quest. If anyone knows how to do this and can explain it thoroughly, I'd greatly appreciate it.
This is a mockup of the screen I'm getting when I try to start it a second time:

Hey dudes,
I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere, but I realized yesterday that this app allows you to extract high res images out of the .drw file. No e-mail/ Wifi required!
http://colors.brombra.net/jar/ColorsDraw_1_0.jar
Just copy the .drw file to your pc.
Run the app, and load your .drw file and choose export when you're in your final frame.
You can also adjust the resolution by giving a multiplier to Size Scaling. Pretty neat.
i think the best place for this thread is "community activities", with other things like the sketcher images, etc.
anyone against that?
I agree with that, should be a fitting place. And this one can be referred for to how to set it up and any questions for the software and hardware.
Mikko K, thanks for that link, that's easier than figuring out the wireless connectivity and there is no need to get a game with wi-fi![]()

Woohoo, a DS sketchpad revolution is going on!!
I got myself a NDS just for Colors!
And it's brilliant! Had been looking for an affordable portable digital sketchpad forever and this is it!
I guess it's impossible to have music running (through the DS) and painting at the same time, is it...? Any ideas? (if not, MP3 player should do)
yeah, get the thread running!![]()
til the new thread gets made or whatever...
i went where there was snow.
here is a youtube video on how the R4 + micro sd + NDS works that i found.

and heres a paint test with the DS
WHOA DUDES! Check da news!
Its a possibility that a NEW NINTENDO DS IS ON THE HORISION! this new model as built in memory, and the touchscreen reads two pressure points at the same time, alltough the only things that is only being said about it is "it will proabley go into producton when current units slow down"
Did I mention bigger screens? maybe we should hold of on buying that new DS lite now eh?
It IS exciting news. I heard this a bit ago, and ultimately decided I couldnt wait for the sales to slow before hooking up the ds/colors fun.
These things are still selling like hotcakes, so I wouldnt hold my breath for the newer unit.
The possibilities with just onboard memory alone are fun to think of though, let alone the bigger screens, etc.
Good times ahead...

Lets hope the built in memory doesn't complicate homebrew applications like this one, or the transfer of files between a pc and the unit. They will probably add some piracy countermeasure, and this tends to make homebrew authoring a pain in the ass. With onboard memory it sounds to me like we're gonna have to flash our units to make apps like these work, and that doesn't sound too good compared to just getting a m3/r4/dsX/etc.
got mine working today! thanks jabo! ^_^
Yea SLASH,
For that reason I will proabley keep my hands on my "phat DS" just in case, but I'm gonna play wait-and-see with these new models that are comeing out.
Built in memory holds sweet promices of JAVA for REAL internet brouseing, and on "DS fanboy" I saw either a mock-up of the new system, or the plans for it on paper, and the DS card was replaced by something that looked more like a basic SD card. Its got me all nervous that if I get colors on a r4 card now this new one won't support it, I'll just stall for now even tough I know for Nintendo to make a new DS card for thier games is insane...
Waa thanks for posting this great tutorial on Colors!
As soon as i get my Ds I'll be running it with Colors using this tut. Very easy to followthanks
Thx guys. Glad I could help.
Soooo... where are your DS paintings? I'd be glad to see what everyone is able to get out of this magic coffer. Maybe the picture with a link to the gallery site where the drw file is stored?
My first. This thing is so much fun!
I suggest that this thread becomes the official posting/ help thread.
Just got my black DS Lite today. Sold my PSP to get one haha. Need a damn R4 cartridge now. I feel a little behind since you guys are already up and running. damn!
Thought there was gonna be a different thread for posting, but here goes!
A few of my first with the DS. I'm getting better with it! I have about 15+ pics in there now.
My page on the gallery: http://colors.brombra.net/me.php
I looked everywhere for someone with this at revelations, and couldn't find anyoneI really want to try it out before a spend money on something I will never play a game on...
I'm going to try to snag a DS for colors in March for my birthday or with birthday money. I could alternatively just sell the loads of stuff I don't want/need and buy one now...
Buhlerks- Funny, cause I was spreading the Colors gospel all throughout the workshop and letting as many people try mine that wanted to. DOh!
Here's a quickie from lunch during the workshop...and another from a Pho restaurant I ate at the other night. I generally just do rreal sloppy speedies on it when i find a minute or two during the day.
Cheers!
a ds is soo worth buying, if only for this app alone. Certainly havent regretted spending the cash, not for a second.
